NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Wofford men’s basketball team was defeated 62-48 by Tulane on Friday night at Devlin Fieldhouse. The game was tied at 36 at the twelve minute mark of the second half when the Green Wave went on a 14-0 run to put the contest out of reach.
Wofford moves to 6-8 on the season, while Tulane is 12-3. The Terriers were led by Karl Cochran with 16 points and Lee Skinner with 14 points and eleven rebounds for his third double-double of the season. The Green Wave was led by Ricky Tarrant and Josh Davis, each with 15 points. Davis also had 13 rebounds. Tulane has now won 20 straight non-conference home games.
“Tulane played well and they were at home,” said head coach Mike Young. “They got a couple down and we mishandled some things. During the run I called a timeout down eight and we continued to get pretty good shots, but hats off to Coach Conroy and Tulane. I thought we did a really good job defensively and we were able to outrebound them which is a real positive for our team. I am looking forward to being back at home Tuesday night.”
The Green Wave took an early 4-0 lead before Karl Cochran hit a lay-up and a three for the Terriers. After five minutes of play, Wofford had a 6-4 advantage. Karl Cochran hit another three pointer to give Wofford a 10-9 lead with 11:40 on the clock. After the score was tied at twelve, the Terriers took a 15-12 lead after a bucket and free throw by Lee Skinner with 9:34 remaining in the first half.
Tulane went on an 11-0 run to take a 23-15 advantage with 6: 35 on the clock in the first half. Wofford answered with a 7-0 run that included a three by Karl Cochran with 4:40 remaining to make it a 23-22 game. The run went to 9-0 after a jumper by Spencer Collins and Wofford had a 24-23 lead. Tulane ended the run with a dunk to regain the lead at 25-24 with 3:15 on the clock. Wofford tied the game again at 27 after a jumper and free throw by Karl Cochran with 55 seconds left. At the break, the game remained tied at 27.
To open the second half, the Green Wave scored first and had a 32-29 lead. Wofford tied it on a long three pointer by Lee Skinner at the 17:15 mark and took a 34-32 lead after a lay-up by C.J. Neumann a minute later. After it was tied at 36, Ricky Tarrant hit back-to-back three pointers to give the Green Wave a 44-36 advantage with 9:11 left in the second half.
Another three by Ricky Tarrant gave Tulane a 48-36 lead with 7:25 remaining on the clock. The run was 14-0 before a lay-up by Lee Skinner made it a 50-38 game with under seven minutes left. The Green Wave continued to outpace the Terriers in the final minutes of the second half. A three pointer by Indiana Faithfull cut the lead to 58-45, but Tulane was able to come away with the 62-48 victory.

Wofford shot 35.4% from the floor while Tulane shot 38.3% overall. The Terriers were 5-of-19 from with three, while the Green Wave was 6-of-16 from behind the arc. Tulane was 20-of-22 from the line while Wofford was 9-of-16 on free throws. Wofford had a 33 to 30 lead on the glass, but had 19 turnovers.
Wofford returns home against Appalachian State on Tuesday, January 8 at 7:00 p.m. in Southern Conference action.
