MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – On another challenging day at the Charleston Southern University Wendy's Invitational, the Wofford College women's golf team turned in the fourth-best team score of Tuesday's final round of 23-over-par 311 to take third place with a combined 54-hole score of 56-over-par 920.
The par-72, 6,011-yard Rivertowne Country Club allowed no individual rounds under-par in Tuesday's final round. The Terriers were led by freshman Katy Funk, who shot a 5-over-par 77 to finish the tournament tied for 15th place at 11-over-par. Funk began the day at the first and was solid with eight pars and one bogey on the front nine. The back nine was not so kind as the freshman carded three bogeys and a double bogey. Funk did help her score on the par-5, 462-yard 16th hole, notching her lone birdie of the final round.
Senior Anne Marie Covar matched Funk's final-round 5-over 77 and climbed four spots from a tie for 25th to finish tied for 21st at 15-over-par. A 5-over round was also carded by sophomore Maegan Higgins, who moved up five spots on the leaderboard to earn a tie for 26th at 17-over-par. Sophomore Emiley Pagrabs shot an 8-over 80, beginning the day tied for 19th and earning a tie with Higgins for 26th. Rounding out the Terriers competing for the team score was junior Lauren Dunbar, who had a rough go of it on Tuesday and shot a 13-over 85 to tie for 44th place at 25-over-par.
Senior Shelby Winters competed for the Terriers as an individual, carding Wofford's best round of the day and the second-best final-round score of the tournament. Winters shot a 2-over-par 74 to match three other players and was only beaten by Coastal Carolina's Frida Castillo who shot the best round of the day at 1-over 73. Winters had three birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey, birdying three of four holes at one point – No. 9, 11 and 12 – to sit 1-under through 14 holes. The 2-over round matches the second-best of Winters' collegiate career and moved her up 17 spots on Tuesday to finish the tournament tied for 37th at 22-over-par.
The College of Charleston ran away with the tournament, winning by 13 strokes over Coastal Carolina with a three-day score of 13-over-par 877.
