Women’s Golf Places Sixth in Elon Invitational

BURLINGTON, N.C. – The Wofford women's golf team concluded the two-day Elon Invitational Tuesday afternoon with a score of 875 to finish sixth as a team at the par-71 Alamance Country Club. The Terriers were led by the duo of Bella Kent and Lilli Horn, who finished 12th and 13th, respectively.
 
The Terriers finished at 23-over par for the tournament. Wofford opened strong on day one with scores of 288 and 287 in the first two rounds. A 300 on the final day dropped the Terriers one spot into sixth. James Madison and the host Elon tied atop the leaderboard to share the victory in the 14-team field. Both teams posted an 856. The Terriers owned the third-best par-3 scoring average in the event at 3.15, and the Terriers accumulated 169 pars, the fourth-highest total in the field.
 
The duo of Bella Kent and Lilli Horn led the way for Wofford with both finishing in the top 20. Kent was the top finisher in 12th with a 4-over 217. After a 71 in round one, she followed with a 73 in each of the final two rounds. Kent tied for the second-best par-4 average at an even 4.00. Horn was one stroke behind in 13th with a 218 score. She opened strong with a 70 before carding a 74 in each of the last two rounds. Horn had the seventh-best par-3 average at 3.08.
 
McKenzie Weddle of Radford earned low medalist honors. She carded a 210 at 3-under par to win by a single stroke in the 78-player field.
 
Delaney Wade tied for 27th with a 220. She had a solid opening day with rounds of 73 and 72, and she finished with a 75. With a par-5 scoring average of .467, Wade tied for the eighth-best marker in the event. With 11 birdies, she tied for the fifth-best total. Sofia Pedrero opened with a 74 and closed day one with a career-low 68 to sit at even par through two rounds. After a 79 to conclude the event, Pedrero checked in at 32nd with a score of 221. Rounding out the Terrier lineup was Grace Lindsey in her collegiate debut. The freshman scored 229 to finish 55th with rounds of 77-74-78. Lindsey tallied 38 pars to tie for the fourth-highest total among the players.
 
Wofford will be back in action on September 29 and 30 with the Tot Hill Farm Invitational. The two-day event is hosted by College of Charleston in Asheboro, North Carolina.
