Women’s Soccer Opens SoCon Tournament at UNCG

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The sixth-seeded Wofford women's soccer team heads to Greensboro, North Carolina on Sunday, November 3rd to take on the third seeded Spartans of University of North Carolina at Greensboro to open the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament at UNCG Soccer Stadium. The match will kick off at 2 p.m.

Wofford finished the regular season sixth place in the SoCon with a conference record of 4-2-4 and 8-4-5 overall on the season. The host UNCG placed third in the conference with a 5-2-3 SoCon Record and 10-6-3 overall record.

TOURNAMENT HISTORY: For the Terriers, this is their first Southern Conference Tournament appearance since 2010. Wofford has an overall record of 5-10-0 in all 10 of the team's tournament appearances.  The Terriers have appeared in the championship game once in 1997 falling to UNCG 1-0.

In its last appearance in the SoCon Tournament in 2010, Wofford also faced UNCG as the eighth seed falling 1-0. The last time the Terriers won a SoCon Tournament match was 2002 when Wofford as the seventh seed defeated second seeded Western Carolina 1-0 in the first round.  The Terriers would then fall to sixth seeded College of Charleston 2-1.

MATCHUP: Sunday marks the 22nd all-time meeting between the Terriers and the Spartans. Wofford has never beaten UNCG as the Spartans hold the all-time record of 19-0-2 against the Terriers.

LAST MEETING: Wofford and UNCG met earlier this season in Spartanburg, S.C. at Snyder Field on October 13, as both teams earned a point in a goalless draw, 0-0. Senior goalkeeper Kimberly Cohn earned her fifth shutout of the season.

LAST TIME OUT: The Terriers closed the regular season with a 2-0 loss at Furman on Wednesday evening (October 30) in Greenville, S.C. The Spartans faced Elon on Wednesday earning a point in a 2-2 tie. Chesney White and Katherine Rodriguez scored a goal each for UNCG.

HEAD COACH AMY KIAH: Amy Kiah is in her 16th season as the Wofford head women's soccer coach. Kiah enters Sunday's match with a career record of 102-144-36.

TEAM OVERVIEW: Wofford has several impact players who have made contributions to Wofford's success so far this season.

Offensively, Wofford is led by sophomore forward Chloe Brackett, who leads the team in goals with six this season. She is followed by junior midfielder Maureen Buff (5) and senior midfielder Alex Kachulis (3).

Defensively, senior defender and 2013 Capital One Academic All-District IV Team selection Maggie Bosley has a team-high five assists this season. In goal for the Terriers, senior goalkeeper Kimberly Cohn has a single-season high nine shutouts this season recording a 0.51 goals against average. Junior Kara Boggs has also seen action this year with three appearances and two starts.

WHAT'S AHEAD: With a win, Wofford or UNCG would advance to the Southern Conference Tournament semifinals on Friday, Nov. 8, at Snyder Field in Spartanburg, S.C., to face the winner of second-seeded Elon and seventh-seeded Davidson at 7:30 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 10, at 1 p.m. on ESPN3.
