Women’s Golf Finishes 12th, Dunbar Earns Top 20 at Lady Paladin

GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Wofford College women's golf team completed its second tournament of the fall season, taking 12th place at the Lady Paladin Invitational Sunday from the Furman University Golf Course.
 
Junior Lauren Dunbar highlighted Wofford's weekend, shooting a 7-over-par 223 (71-79-73) and finishing tied for 19th in the 90-man field. Dunbar shot a final round 1-over 73, climbing six spots on Sunday from a tie for 25th. The Columbia, S.C., native had three birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey in her final round.
 
Sophomore Maegan Higgins saved her best round of the tournament for Sunday, also shooting a 1-over 73 and moving up from a tie for 43rd to a tie for 26th place. Higgins avoided the big numbers and had four birdies and five bogeys on her final round, completing the weekend with a total of 10-over 226 (76-77-73)
 
Wofford began the day 12th in the 16-team field and closed the gap on the squads in front of them. For the tournament, the Terriers shot a 50-over-par 914 (302-309-303), two strokes behind 11th place Coastal Carolina (+48) and seven behind 10th place Georgia State (+50). The Terriers finished 20 strokes ahead of 2013 NCAA Regional participant UNC Wilmington (+70), which came in 13th place.
 
Wisconsin – 2013 NCAA Championship participant – shot a final round 7-under-par 281 to win the tournament at 1-over 865 (290-294-281), two strokes ahead of second-place Clemson. The Badgers' final round 281 broke the 18-hole record at the Lady Paladin Invitational, and their three-round 865 broke the 54-hole record.
 
Clemson's Ashlan Ramsey finished atop the individual leaderboard at 7-under 209, breaking the Lady Paladin individual 54-hole record. Ramsey shot under par in all three rounds (68-71-70) en route to breaking the record.
 
The Wofford women's golf team continues the fall season next Monday, Sept. 30, beginning the two-day UNCG Starmount Fall Classic in Greensboro, N.C.
 
Tournament Notes
 - Junior Lauren Dunbar finished T-19th (223, +7).
 - Maegan Higgins T-26th (226, +10); Anne Marie Covar T-50th (231, +15); Katy Funk T-60th (234, +18); Shelby Winters T-85th (247, +31).
 - Six of the 16 teams that competed were participants in the 2013 NCAA Regionals (Wisconsin, Clemson, Florida State, Texas A&M, East Carolina and UNC Wilmington).
 - Wisconsin broke the Lady Paladin 54-hole team record (854, +1) and 18-hole record (281, -7).
 - Clemson's Ashland Ramsey broke the 54-hole individual record (209, -7).
 - Florida State's Lydia Gumm was disqualified at the conclusion of the second round.
