Women’s Golf Finishes 12th at Amelia Island

FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. – The Wofford College women's golf team completed its first tournament of the spring season on Tuesday, earning 12th place at the Amelia Island Collegiate, hosted by Jacksonville University at the Amelia Island National Golf Club.
 
Junior Lauren Dunbar highlighted the Terrier effort, tying for 16th place with a 54-hole total of 8-over-par 224. Dunbar began her day with a birdie on the par-4, 342-yard 10th hole, and carded three birdies on the round.
 
Senior Anne Marie Covar also earned a top 20, tying for 20th place with a three-round total of 9-over-par 225. Covar shot the best final round of any Terrier, carding two birdies and just three bogeys for a 1-over 73. Starting on the 11th, Covar's final birdie came on her finishing 10th hole, shooting an even-par 36 on the back nine.
 
As a team, Wofford shot a final round of 28-over-par 316 to complete the tournament with a 68-over-par 932, finishing ahead of both Illinois State and Florida Atlantic. The Terriers shot 20-over 308 in each of their first two rounds on Monday.
 
Florida International finished with a winning total of 5-under-par 859. The Panthers were 17 under par heading into Tuesday's final round and shot a 12-over 300 to hang on by 12 strokes over Kennesaw State.
 
FIU's Camila Serrano took the medalist honors in a playoff with Daytona State College's Tiffany Chan. The two finished the tournament with an 8-under 208, and Serrano made par four straight times on No. 18 to win the playoff.
 
The Wofford women's golf team hosts The Country Club of Spartanburg Spring Invitational next Monday and Tuesday at The Country Club of Spartanburg.
