HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Wofford College women's golf team closed out the sixth annual Low Country Intercollegiate on Monday and earned fifth place with a two-day total of 85-over-par 661.

Once again, the South Course of the Moss Creek Golf Club played extremely tough for the 10-team, 55-player field. Monday's final-round stroke average was 85.62, nearly a stroke and a half higher than Sunday's already challenging 84.19. The increase in stroke average had to do with winds blowing 15-20 miles per hour throughout the day, and a 20-degree decrease in temperatures with Monday's high only reaching 55.

Headlining the top-five finish for the host Terriers were senior Anne Marie Covar and junior Lauren Dunbar. Each tied for seventh place with a 36-hole total of 16-over-par 160.

Covar began the day in 25th place and climbed 18 spots, carding Wofford's best round of the day of 6-over 78. The senior's round included a birdie on the par-3, 97-yard 17th, as she finished strong with a total of 2-over through her final 11 holes.

Dunbar tied for seventh as well. After posting a 6-over 78 on Sunday, the Columbia, S.C., native turned in a 10-over 82 on her final round.

Samford was crowned team champion. The Bulldogs entered the day with a one-stroke lead on Southern Conference rival Western Carolina, and held off the Catamounts with a winning total of 52-over-par 628. Samford posted the best team score of the final round, a 27-over 315, which was two shots better than WCU's 317.

The Catamounts finished in second place at 55-over 631. Gardner-Webb took third (+67), followed by Bethune-Cookman (+71) and Wofford.

WCU's Kristin Swindell won the individual championship. Swindell was the 18-hole leader with a 3-over 75 on Sunday, and finished the tournament with a final-round 4-over 76 for a winning total of 7-over 151. She defeated teammate Kim Mitchell by two strokes (+9). Three Samford individuals rounded out the top five, including Bailey Gray (+13), Alex Jasper (+13) and Sydney Needham (+14).

For the Terriers, sophomore Maegan Higgins tied for 33rd (+26), freshman Katy Funk finished 38th (+28) and sophomore Emiley Pagrabs tied for 39th (+29). Senior Alex Hendricks competed as an individual and was disqualified following Sunday first round. She went on to shoot a 17-over 89.

The Wofford women's golf team continues spring play next Sunday, traveling to Morganton, N.C., for the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate.
