BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The women's basketball team played a closely contested game at Gardner-Webb Thursday night at Paul Porter Arena, but the Bulldogs were able to come away with a 64-61 victory over the Terriers.

The Terriers (0-3) put together a solid first half to jump out to a 27-19 lead at halftime. The Runnin' Bulldogs (3-0) then outscored Wofford in the third period 23-11, forcing Wofford to play from behind the rest of the game.

Up 42-40 in the fourth period, Gardner-Webb went on a 7-3 run to begin the period before Terrier guard
Maria Corella sank a layup with 6:35 to go. The teams traded layups back and forth over the next minute and a half, including two each by Terrier guard
Ashton Fleming and Bulldog forward Olivia Parker, making the score 53-51.

Wofford tied the game at 57-57 with 2:35 remaining after guard
Jordan Frazier sank two free throws. The next possession for Gardner-Webb resulted in a Candace Brown three-pointer, giving the Runnin' Bulldogs a lead they would never relinquish.

The Terriers were able to get the lead down to three on a Fleming layup with six seconds left. Wofford however could not get a quick foul on the inbounds, as Gardner-Webb dribbled out the clock to end the game.

Fleming led Wofford with 21 points in the game while also gathering seven rebounds, the second 20-point game of the season for the Terriers. Washington continued her fast start to the season, putting up 13 points, nine rebounds, four steals and two assists. The four steals are a new career-high for Washington.

Freshman forward
Marissa Bayer scored her first collegiate points in the first period, making two layups to finish with four points in nine minutes. Corella also scored in double-figures, gathering 12 points and five rebounds.

Frazier shot 4-4 from the free throw line, giving her four points to go with two rebounds, an assist and two steals. The two steals tied her on Wofford's career steals list with Tori Quick (217) for seventh in Wofford history.

The loss extends Wofford's losing streak against Gardner-Webb to four games, and it extends a four game losing streak on the road. The Terriers are now 16-8 all-time against the Runnin' Bulldogs.

Wofford has the weekend off before traveling to Charleston Southern to take on the Buccaneers Monday night at 6:30 p.m., at the Buccaneer Dome.
