2015 Southern Conference Preseason Selections Announced

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – In conjunction with the 2015 Southern Conference Football Media held on Wednesday, the league's head coaches selected an all-conference first and second team. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes as part of the balloting. The Terriers had eight players recognized by the league's coaches, with two on the first team.

In addition, the conference's eight head coaches have chosen Chattanooga as the choice to win the league championship, while Wofford was picked to finish fourth. The Southern Conference Sports Media Association also selected Chattanooga first, with Wofford in fourth place.

Chattanooga led all schools with 12 preseason all-conference honorees. The Mocs placed eight student-athletes on the first team, while four players were named to the second team. Samford had nine players earn preseason all-conference honors, including six on the first team. Wofford and Western Carolina earned eight preseason honorees each.

Leading the Terriers on the first team were offensive lineman Anton Wahrby and punter Brian Sanders. Wahrby, a junior from Karlskrona, Sweden, started all eleven games in 2014 at right tackles. He was an All-Southern Conference first team selection last season when he led the team in knockdown blocks. Sanders, a senior from McLean, Virginia, was sixth in the Southern Conference in punting average last season at 39.4 yards.

Second team honorees include running back Lorenzo Long, offensive lineman T.J. Chamberlin, defensive lineman E.J. Speller, linebacker Terrance Morris, linebacker Drake Michaelson, and return specialist Will Gay.

Long, a junior from Pensacola, Florida, was named second team All-Southern Conference last season. He led the team in rushing with 930 yards, which was third in the league. Chamberlin, a senior from Land O'Lakes, Florida, was named first team All-Southern Conference in 2014 when he started ten games at right guard. Speller, a senior from Chesapeake, Virginia, started all eleven games at defensive tackle last season and earned second team All-Southern Conference honors. Morris, a sophomore from Chester, South Carolina, was fourth on the team in tackles and tied for first in sacks as he was named to the SoCon All-Freshman team in 2014. Michaelson, a senior from Eden Prairie, Minnesota, started all eleven games at inside linebacker last season and was third on the team in tackles. Gay, a senior from Anderson, South Carolina, has 15 career punt returns.

The Terriers will report to campus on Sunday, August 9 and begin practice on Monday, August 10. A complete practice schedule will be released next week.
