SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After two and a half weeks of preseason practice, the Wofford women's soccer team kicks off the 2015 sports calendar Friday evening.

The Terriers open the season at Snyder Field against Coastal Carolina at 6 p.m. The two teams played last season, a 1-0 victory for the Chanticleers August 31, 2014 in Conway, S.C.

Wofford enters the 2015 season returning only four starters and welcoming 17 freshmen to the team. Of the 38 players on roster, 27 of them are either freshmen or sophomores.

The team is led by five seniors in defenders
Lucy Etro and
Katherine Whisenhunt, midfielder
Emily Gaid and midfielder/forwards
Mary Beth Bleekrode and
Carlyn Fralick. Other key returners include junior
Tanner Kaplan and sophomores
Hannah Washko and
Rachel Fenner, whom made the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team in 2014.

One notable departure from the 2014 team is at keeper. Redshirt freshman
Alex Carroll and freshmen
Mayson Liner and
Alex King look to fill the shoes of graduated senior
Kara Boggs, who ended her career as Wofford's fifth all-time saves leader. The Terriers' three keepers have yet to play a minute of collegiate soccer.

Wofford was picked to finish seventh in the SoCon preseason coaches' poll. The Terriers finished the 2014 season with a 7-11-0 overall record, making it to the quarterfinals of the SoCon Tournament.

Coastal Carolina also begins its regular season when it travels to Wofford. The Chanticleers went 11-8-2 in the 2014 campaign, eventually falling in the Big South Conference semifinals to eventual champion High Point.

Admission at Snyder Field for Friday's contest is free.
