Football All-American Recognition

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Following the 2016 season, several Wofford College football players received All-America honors. Lorenzo Long and Anton Wahrby were named third team FCS All-America by the Associated Press, while David Marvin, Long and Wahrby received STATS FCS All-America honors.

Long, a senior from Pensacola, Florida, started all fourteen games at fullback. He led the team and the Southern Conference with 1,424 rushing yards, while also leading the league in rushing touchdowns with 18. He ended his career with 3,479 rushing yards to rank fifth in school history and his 43 career rushing touchdowns are third in school history. Long was named second team All-America by STATS and third team All-America by both the Associated Press and College Sports Madness. He also earned first team All-Southern Conference honors.

Marvin, a junior from Charlotte, North Carolina, played all fourteen games at kicker and punter. As kicker, he was 17-of-23 on field goals and 42-of-42 on PATs for 92 points, which was the most in a single season by a kicker in school history. He made five field goals of over 50 yards, including a school and SoCon record 57 yards (twice). He also has 37 touchbacks on kickoffs. At punter, he led the league in punting average at 46.2 yards and the Terriers lead the nation in net punting. He was named first team All-America by STATS as a kicker and was also first team All-Southern Conference at both kicker and punter.

Wahrby, a senior from Karlskrona, Sweden, started all fourteen games at right tackle. He was second on the team in knockdown blocks with 160 and was part of an offensive line that allowed only three sacks on the season and blocked for the nation's fifth-ranked rushing game. Wahrby was named third team All-America by both the Associated Press and STATS, plus he received first team honors from College Sports Madness. He was a three-time first team All-Southern Conference player.

This is the first year since the 2011 season that the Terriers have multiple players named All-American. Wofford ended the season 10-4 overall and lost in the NCAA FCS Quarterfinals. It marked just the fifth time in school history the team reached the double-digit win mark.
