CLEMSON, S.C. – In the first road game of the season, the Wofford College baseball team was defeated 7-0 by Clemson on Tuesday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Tigers scored three unearned runs in the fourth inning and added a pair of runs in the fifth to secure the victory.

Wofford is 7-1 on the season, while Clemson is 6-1 overall. The Terriers limited to just five hits on the day, with two by
Carson Waln. Clemson had eleven hits and were led by Chase Pinder with three hits, while Chris Okey added three RBIs.

Alec Paradowski opened the game with a walk, which was followed by a single from
Max McDougald. With runners on the corners and two out, an attempted double steal was unsuccessful to end the top half of the first. Clemson answered with runners on the corners with one out and a ground out plated the first run of the game. Both teams were retired in order in the second inning with the Tigers holding a 1-0 lead.

Wofford left one runner on base in the top of the third inning. With one runner on base and one out, a strikeout and caught stealing double play ended the bottom half of the third.
Kody Ruedisili led off the fourth inning with a single. After a fielder's choice by

Carson Waln had an infield single. The Terriers left a pair of runners on base to end the top of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Clemson had runners on the corners with one out after a pair of singles. Weston Wilson had an RBI single to make it a 2-0 game. A Wofford error allowed a second run to score, while a sacrifice fly made it a 4-0 advantage at the end of four complete.

The Terriers were retired in order in the top of the fifth inning. Clemson had a walk and single to lead off the bottom of the fifth. A double up the middle by Chris Okey drove in both runners for a 6-0 score. Wofford was retired in order in the top of the sixth inning. The Tigers opened their half of the sixth with a single, walk, and bunt single to load the bases. With one out, a sacrifice fly pushed the lead to 7-0 and a fly ball ended the sixth.

Carson Waln led off the top of the seventh with a single and
Cody Miller walked. They advanced on a double steal into scoring position, but three straight strikeouts ended the top half. After Clemson was retired in order in the bottom of the seventh,
Alec Paradowski led off the eighth by being hit by a pitch but was unable to advance. The Tigers were retired in order in the bottom of the eighth and the Terriers went in order in the top of the ninth to end the game.

Wofford pitcher
John Caskey (1-1) went 3.1 innings and allowed four runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
Elliot Lance threw two-thirds of an inning and gave up two runs on three hits.
Grant Byers worked one and a third with one run allowed on two hits, along with two strikeouts.
Connor Foltyn did not allow a hit in an inning on the mound.
Quintin Pile faced two batters and recorded two outs.
Spencer Kulman worked a clean bottom of the eighth with two strikeouts.

Alex Schell (1-0) started for Clemson and worked 3.1 innings with four hits allowed and a pair of strikeouts. Alex Eubanks threw 2.2 innings and did not allow a hit. Pat Krall went 1.1 innings with one hit allowed and four strikeouts. Ryley Gilliam added two-thirds of an inning without a base runner. Alex Bostic struck out the side in the top of the ninth.

The last time Wofford was shutout in a game was on March 31, 2015 at top-ranked Vanderbilt. For the second straight season, Wofford entered a game at Clemson 7-0 and were defeated (February 25, 2015, Clemson 11-5).

On Wednesday afternoon, Wofford will take a short road trip to USC Upstate for a 4:00 p.m. contest. The Terriers will host Ohio University for a four-game weekend series beginning on Friday afternoon at 5:00 p.m.
