SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College baseball team was defeated 6-2 by Cornell on Sunday afternoon at Russell C. King Field in a game that ended after eight innings due to rain. The Terriers outhit the Big Red nine to seven, but left twelve runners on base in the contest.

Wofford is 11-6 on the season, while Cornell is 3-3. The Big Red won two of the three games to take the weekend series. The Terriers were led by
Carson Waln with two hits and an RBI, while
Chandler Engel had a solo home run. Cornell's Frankie Padulo had two hits, an RBI and scored three runs to lead the team.

The Big Red had runners on the corners after an error and a single to open the game. A sacrifice fly by Cole Rutherford made it a 1-0 game in the middle of the first inning.
Alec Paradowski walked to begin the bottom of the first, but the Terriers left one runner on base to end the inning. Cornell stranded a pair in the top of the second after two batters were hit by pitch.

Wofford loaded the bases with a pair of singles and an error, but a ground out ended the scoring chance in the second inning. The Big Red stranded one in the top of the third and Wofford left one on base after a double by
Brett Hash. In the top of the fourth, Cornell had two runners on base when a single by Frankie Padulo drove in a run. With two outs, Tommy Wagner reached on an error that allowed two runs to score as Cornell had a 4-0 lead in the middle of the fourth inning.

With one out in the bottom of the fourth,
Chandler Engel hit a solo home run over the fence in left field to cut the score to 4-1. It was his first career home run and the seventh of the season for the Terriers. Cornell was retired in order in the top of the fifth. Wofford had a pair of runners on base after a walk to
Max McDougald and single by
Carson Waln, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the scoring chance.

Cornell added a run when C.J. Price hit a solo home run with two outs in the top of the sixth inning. A double was followed by an RBI single from Tommy Wagner for a 6-1 lead. In the bottom of the sixth, Wofford was retired in order. The Big Red left one runner on base as the game moved to the seventh inning stretch.

Derek Hirsch led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk and he moved to second on a ground out. A wild pitch moved Hirsch to third base and a walk gave the Terriers runners on the corners. A single through the left side by
Carson Waln drove in Hirsch for a 6-2 score.
Brett Hash added a single to load the bases with one out. A strikeout and fly ball ended the seventh with three runners stranded.

In the top of the eighth, the Big Red left one runner on base. Wofford had a pair of singles in the bottom of the ninth by
Derek Hirsch and
Alec Paradowski, but a fielder's choice ended the inning. In the top of the ninth, Cornell led off with a double. Three straight strikeouts ended the half inning.
Carson Waln led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, but the skies opened up and the game was called due to rain. The game officially ended at the completion of the eighth inning.

Wofford pitcher
Jacob Condra-Bogan (1-1) went 5.2 innings with six runs allowed on six hits and one strikeout.
Quintin Pile did not allow a hit in one and a third inning.
Will Stillman threw an inning with one hit allowed and three strikeouts. His three strikeouts in the top of the ninth inning did not count.

Tim Willittes (1-1) started for the Big Red and threw 6.1 innings with six hits allowed. He struck out nine batters and issued four walks. Peter Lannoo earned the save by going the final 1.2 innings without allowing a run on three hits and one strikeout.

Wofford will travel to Presbyterian on Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. contest before a road-home-road weekend series against Gardner-Webb beginning on Friday.
