SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
Adam Scott threw a seven inning shutout as the Wofford College baseball team defeated East Tennessee State 10-0 on Saturday afternoon Russell C. King Field. The Terriers had three home runs in the game that ended due to the 10-run rule as they earned the series win over the Bucs.
Wofford is 29-24 overall and 11-10 in the Southern Conference. ETSU is 23-27 on the season and 10-11 in the league. The Terriers were led by
Kody Ruedisili with two home runs and four RBIs, while
McClain Bradley had three hits. The Bucs only two hits were by Aaron Maher.
The game marked the final home game of the season for the Terriers. Prior to the contest, eight seniors were recognized in their last appearance at Russell C. King Field. The seniors include:
Jacob Condra-Bogan,
Connor Foltyn,
Derek Hirsch,
Demetrius Jennings, Matt Milburn,
Alec Paradowski,
Josh Simpson, and
Will Stillman.
In the first inning, ETSU was retired in order and Wofford had a single. The Bucs had a single in the top of the second, but the runner was caught stealing second. Wofford led off the bottom of the second with a single and a fielder's choice.
Cody Miller then cleared the fence in left field for his third home run of the season and a 2-0 lead.
Kody Ruedisili followed with a solo home run, his third of the year, to make it 3-0. It was the first time since March 17, 2015 against Coppin State that the Terriers had back-to-back home runs (
James Plaisted and Matt Pelt).
The Bucs were retired in order in the top of the third inning and the Terriers had one reach base in the bottom half of the third. After ETSU was retired in order in the fourth,
McClain Bradley singled to lead off the bottom half. On a fielder's choice by
Max McDougald, an error on the play allowed Bradley to score and McDougald ended up on second. A balk and a walk by
Cody Miller gave Wofford runners on the corners.
Kody Ruedisili then drove a ball over the fence in right center for a 7-0 lead. It was his fourth home run of the season and first two-home run game.
A single led off the fifth for the Bucs, but a fielder's choice ended the top half of the inning. Wofford was retired in order to end the fifth inning and ETSU went in order in the top of the sixth.
Max McDougald opened the bottom of the sixth with a single and with one out
Kody Ruedisili reached on an error. A balk moved the runners into scoring position. A sacrifice fly by
Demetrius Jennings gave Wofford an 8-0 lead and with Ruedisili on third base a balk made it 9-0.
After the Bucs were retired in order in the top of the seventh,
Brett Hash had a one-out double. With two outs,
McClain Bradley hit a double to right field and as Hash crossed home plate, the game was officially over due to the Southern Conference run rule in the final game of a series.
Wofford starting pitcher
Adam Scott (4-5) went seven shutout innings with only two hits allowed. He faced 22 batters, one over the minimum, and had two strikeouts.
Logan Gentry (1-0) started for ETSU and in three innings gave up seven runs on six hits, along with two strikeouts. Victor Gonzalez went three innings with two runs allowed on one hit and had three strikeouts. Russell Koesters threw the final two-thirds of an inning with one run allowed on two hits and a strikeout.
Wofford will end the regular season with a three-game series at Furman beginning on Thursday, May 19. The Southern Conference Tournament begins on May 23 at Fluor Field in Greenville.
