SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford and Mercer volleyball teams swapped sets throughout the match to force a fifth set, but the Terriers would win 3-2 to pick up the team's first conference win on Saturday night at Benjamin Johnson Arena.
Wofford won the first and third sets 25-20 and 25-19, respectively, while Mercer won a marathon second set 34-32 and won the fourth set 26-24. Ultimately, Wofford took the fifth and decisive set 15-8. With the win, the Terriers improve to 8-8 on the season and 1-1 in conference play while the Bears fall to 9-5 overall and 1-1 in SoCon action.
Though the matches were close throughout and included 15 lead changes and 39 ties,
Lynze Roos' team led in almost every category statistically. After hitting just .083 in Friday's loss, the Terriers rebounded in dramatic fashion to hit an impressive .312 as a team on the night, while holding Mercer to just .267.
Four Terriers recorded double digit kills in the win. Freshman
Catie Cronister led the offensive attack with 24 kills. The outsider hitter from Chicago, Ill. hit .386 in the match.
Colleen Reilly and
Alex Holland followed right behind as Reilly racked up 19 kills (.441) and Holland contributed 17 kills while hitting a team high percentage of .464.

Lorissa King recorded 45 assists as
Madeline Savage (12), Cronister (11) and
Bella Santoro (11) all tallied double digit digs.
Kara Shacklette added nine digs as well. Wofford's serving proved to be a big advantage as the Terriers had 11 service aces on the night and only three receiving errors.
Wofford will hit the road for the next four matches, all conference matches. Next up, the Terriers travel to Charleston to take on the Citadel on Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. The team will then play at Western Carolina, Chattanooga and Furman before returning home to Benjamin Johnson Arena on October 11 against South Carolina State. The SC State match begins a four game homestand.
