SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
Cameron Jackson recorded his first career double-double and Wofford men's basketball picked up their first win in January with a 67-58 win over nearby rival Furman on Saturday afternoon in front of a packed crowd in Benjamin Johnson Arena. With the win, Wofford improves to 7-11 on the season and 2-3 in Southern Conference competition, while Furman falls to 10-8 overall and 3-2 in conference action.

Mike Young. "Tonight's game looked like Wofford. It looked like what we have built this thing on – toughness, activity, awareness and good teamwork. I thought we were terrific defensively. We were desperate to play well and to win against a good team and we did that. I'm excited for our boys. "
Jackson led Wofford in scoring with 20 points and 10 rebounds, nine of which came on the defensive end. The 20 points ties a career high for Jackson as the sophomore went 8-9 from the field (88.8%). The forward also added four assists and two steals.
"Coach pushed all week to come out and do the right things to get a win," said Jackson. "The team prepared really well all week. We had some hard practices to make sure we were ready for this game and hopefully we can use it as a stepping stone moving forward."
Jackson also credited the crowd for helping propel the team to a win.
"The crowd was amazing. I want to thank everyone who came out because they really helped us and our home court advantage is amazing."
Eric Garcia, who was honored pregame for amassing 1,000 career points, finished with 14 points, five rebounds, tying a career high, and six assists. Garcia's third assist of the night was the 100
th of the season for Garcia.
"Eric did a terrific job tonight, especially trying to contain (Furman leading scorer Devin) Sibley. He is big and strong and having a nice year for Furman, but he worked for all 21 of those points. Garcia is awesome as he is night in and night out."
Fletcher Magee scored 12 points and pulled down six rebounds. The sophomore guard has finished in double digit scoring in all 18 games this season.
Matthew Pegram pulled down a career high nine rebounds.
Nathan Hoover earned his first career start and played 24 minutes.
The game started off tight with neither team leading by more than three points until Wofford took a 14-9 lead with just under 12 minutes to go in the first half. The rest of the first half proved to be the same way as the margin remained less than five points. The teams were deadlocked 25-25 at the half.
The Terriers and Paladins continued to swap baskets in the early part of the second half. Wofford begin to pull away with eight minutes to go, taking a 50-44 advantage. The Terriers would not relinquish the lead, stretching the lead to 10 with just over two minutes left in the game and containing the Paladins' attack to emerge victorious.
Wofford led for over 29 minutes of the contest as the Terriers outshot the Paladins 45.3% to 41.7%.
Sibley recorded 21 points while Kris Acox (16) and Daniel Fowler (13) both joined him in double digits.
Wofford's home stand continues as the Terriers host VMI on Thursday Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. The Keydets fell 91-82 to UNCG on Saturday and are 4-12 on the season and 1-4 in conference play.
