GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Wofford College baseball team used a pair of eighth inning home runs to defeat Presbyterian College 10-9 on Wednesday night at Fluor Field. The Terriers scored five runs in the first inning and the Blue Hose scored five in the third inning to take the lead. Wofford regained the advantage in the seventh, but Presbyterian took a one run lead in the top of the eighth. Back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the eighth gave the Terriers the victory.

Wofford is 12-14 on the season and Presbyterian is 12-15 overall. The teams split the two game series this season. The Terriers were led by
Carson Waln with two hits and a pair of RBIs, while
Reed Massey had four RBIs. Nick Wise and Cletis Avery each had three hits for the Blue Hose.

The Blue Hose had a single and then with two outs a double made it a 1-0 game in the top of the first inning.
Andrew Orzel led off the Wofford half of the first with an infield single and
McClain Bradley followed with a home run for a 2-1 lead. A single by
Brett Hash and double by
Carson Waln was followed by a home run over the Green Monster by
Reed Massey for a 5-1 advantage. Wofford left one runner on base at the end of the first frame.

Presbyterian led off the second inning with a home run by Brett Auckland to cut the score to 5-2, but left one runner on base to end the top half. Wofford was retired in order to end the second inning. The Blue Hose had back-to-back singles in the top of the third and a double drove in a run for a 5-3 game. A home run by T.J. Richardson plated three runs to give the Blue Hose a 6-5 lead. With runners at first and third, a wild pitch made it 7-5 before a ground out ended the top half. Wofford left a pair of runners in scoring position to end the third inning.

In the fourth inning, the Blue Hose left one on base and the Terriers were retired in order. A double play and strikeout ended the top half of the fifth inning for Presbyterian. Wofford opened the bottom of the fifth with back-to-back walks and a passed ball moved the runners into scoring position. A ground out by
Reed Massey drove in a run to cut the lead to 7-6, but a fly ball ended the inning with a runner stranded.

The Blue Hose had a single with two outs in the top of the sixth, but the runner was left on base. Wofford was retired in the bottom of the sixth inning and Presbyterian went in order in the top of the seventh inning.
Brett Hash was hit by a pitch with one out in the bottom of the seventh and
Mack Nathanson followed with a double. A single to shallow right field by
Carson Waln scored both runners and Wofford took an 8-7 lead.

The top of the eighth began with three straight walks to load the bases. A fielder's choice plated a run to tie the game at eight and a wild pitch gave the Blue Hose a 9-8 lead. With one out in the bottom of the eighth,
Kody Ruedisili hit a solo shot onto the roof in left field to tie the game at 9.
Dylan May entered to pinch hit and cleared the fence in left center to give Wofford a 10-9 advantage. In the top of the ninth, the Blue Hose were retired in order to end the game.

Jake Hershman started for the Terriers and went 2.1 innings with seven runs allowed on nine hits.
Matt Ellmyer threw 4.2 innings and did not allow a run on three hits with four strikeouts.
Spencer Kulman walked three batters and allowed two runs.
Austin Higginbotham (1-3) went the final two innings with three strikeouts.

Presbyterian starter Jackson Dean threw 2.1 innings with five runs allowed on six hits and three strikeouts. Ethan Worktkoetter went 1.2 innings with one hit allowed and three strikeouts. Eric Miles worked three innings with two runs allowed on two hits and two strikeouts. Hunter Kyzar (0-4) allowed two runs on two hits and had one strikeout.

Wofford had four home runs for the third time this season.
McClain Bradley hit his third home run of the season, while
Reed Massey hit his second.
Kody Ruedisili hit his third of the year and
Dylan May had his first of the season. The Terriers also had back-to-back home runs (eighth inning, Ruedisili and May) for the second time this season, along with against Georgetown on February 25 (
Alex Malsch and
Mack Nathanson).

The Terriers will travel north for a three-game road series at Villanova beginning Friday afternoon and a midweek contest at Navy next Tuesday before returning home to host VMI.
