SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford men's basketball team has added Chevez Goodwin to the program, as announced by head coach Mike Young on Tuesday. Goodwin, a transfer from College of Charleston, will have to sit out the 2017-18 season due to NCAA transfer and eligibility rules, but has three years of remaining eligibility.
 
"Chevez Goodwin is a wonderful young man that will add a great deal to our college community, both on and off the basketball floor," said Young.  "As a player, his length and athleticism jump out at anyone who sees him play. Next year, having to sit out per NCAA rules, will be very beneficial to his development. I am thrilled to have him in our program." 
 
Goodwin, a native of Columbia, S.C. (The Hammond School), appeared in all 35 games for the Cougars in his freshman campaign. The 6-9 power forward started three games for Earl Grant's squad, averaging 2.3 points and 2.9 rebounds in 9.8 minutes per game. He scored a season high eight points three times and contributed a season-high 20 minutes in the Cougars game at Delaware.
 
"It felt like home," Goodwin said of Wofford. "I love the coaching staff and the team. It felt like a brotherhood and I'm happy to be joining them."
 
In his senior season at Hammond, Goodwin averaged 18.9 points, 12.4 rebounds and 1.3 blocks and was named co-Midlands Player of the Year. Hammond won the SCISA 3A state championship in Goodwin's junior season and went 93-22 in Goodwin's four years. He was also named to the All-Region and All-State teams his sophomore, junior, and senior seasons.
