GREENSBORO, N.C. -Â Four first half goals for UNCG would put the match out of reach early as the Wofford women's soccer team fell 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at UNCG Soccer Stadium. The loss drops the Terriers to 1-5-0 in conference play and 3-10-1 overall on the season.Â
The Terriers came out active in the first half, finding a pair of shots on goal from Hayley Younginer before she would fire a shot bottom right, in the 10th minute, to give Wofford an early 1-0 lead. Both teams would go on to trade attacks until UNCG's Cienna Rideout secured the equalizer for the Spartans, finding the left side of the net in the 20th minute. Wofford found themselves on the defensive as the Spartans took the lead on a corner kick header in the 36th minute to put the score at 2-1. The Spartans then took control for the duration of the first half, tallying two more goals in the 43rd minute to take a 4-1 lead going into the intermission.Â
The second half was more of the same with UNCG adding their fifth goal of the day just five minutes in on a shot from the right side of the box. Wofford found efforts from Marta Izquierdo and Catie Slater, with a shot on goal, before Eva Dailey responded, corralling a loose ball for a shot that met the left side of the net to make the score 5-2 in the 63rd minute. The Terriers continued to fight going forward, finding a shot on goal from Savannah Vathy that was saved by UNCG's keeper, however, the Spartans would end the game with their final goal in the 89th minute to take the 6-2 win at the end of regulation.Â
The Spartans outshot Wofford, 33-13, for the match, while also taking the corner kick advantage 10-3.
