Nathan Hoover and 14 made threes, the Wofford men's basketball team downed Samford 92-79 on Wednesday night in Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. With the win, Wofford ends a two game losing streak. The Terriers improve to 17-8 on the season and 8-4 in Southern Conference play, while the Bulldogs fall to 8-18 overall and 4-9 in conference action.
Â
"I'm happy to get the win and I'm pleased with how our team played tonight," said head coach
Mike Young. "We made some adjustments at the half that paid off and overall I was pleased with our effort."
Â

th time this season and finished with 27 points to lead all players. The junior guard went 10-17 from the floor, 4-10 from three and 3-3 from the line. Cameron Jackson each tallied 10 points to give Wofford five players in double-figures for the first time since the victory over The Citadel on Jan. 6. Murphy added a team high six assists with just one turnover in 25 minutes. Murphy, who is second in the SoCon with a 2.5 assist to turnover ratio, has 20 assists and just three turnovers over the last four contests.
Donovan Theme-Love also added a season high five assists in the win.
Â
Wofford jumped out to a quick lead to start the game. Murphy sunk a three and converted on a layup on back-to-back Wofford possessions to put the Terriers up 15-7 and force Scott Padgett to call timeout for the Bulldogs. Samford responded with a jumper by Justin Coleman, but
Tray Hollowell nailed a three on the other end to answer and push the lead to nine. Samford used a 7-4 run over the next four minutes to cut the lead to six, but a layup by Jackson and back-to-back threes by Hoover ran the lead back to 12 with just under eight minutes to go in the half.
Â
The Bulldogs, however, outscored the Terriers 17-4 over the next five minutes and took a 35-34 lead with 3:36 left. The teams swapped baskets in the final three minutes but Samford guard Demetrius Denzel-Dyson hit a three with 8 seconds left to give the Bulldogs a 45-40 halftime lead.
Â
Wofford outscored Samford by 18 in the second half of play. The Bulldogs made four free throws to start the second half and pushed the lead to nine. But, Magee railed off two threes and Stumpe added one on three straight possessions to tie the game at 49. Wofford took the lead 52-51 off a free throw by Stumpe and never trailed going forward, stretching the lead to as many as 14.
Â
Wofford had 14 threes, the most since the Terriers also nailed 14 at Samford on Jan. 18. The Terriers shot 57.4%, the highest since a win against VMI on Jan. 4 (59%). The Terriers had 22 assists, the team's third most this season, on 31 made baskets and committed just 12 turnovers.
