SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's lacrosse team fell 23-3 to Fresno State on an overcast Saturday afternoon in Gibbs Stadium. With the loss, Wofford falls to 0-8 on the season while Fresno State improves to 6-4 with the win.

Sophie Smith and
JoJo Franklin each netted a goal for the Terriers in the loss. Smith, a junior, leads Wofford with 13 goals scored this season.
The Bulldogs scored the first goal of the game three and a half minutes in. Smith tied it with a goal for the Terriers two minutes later on an assist from
Delaney Irwin. Fresno State tacked on 14 more goals in the first half and held a 15-1 lead at the break.
Nicole Ortlieb scored a minute into the second half and quickly followed with two more, all in the first five minutes of the half. The Bulldogs added three more over the next eight minutes and ran the lead to 21-1, part of a 20-0 Fresno State run. However, Wofford scored two of the last four goals of the game. With 14:19 left in the game, Wurzel netted her third goal of the season on a free position shot. The Bulldogs responded with two goals before Franklin scored Wofford's third goal of the game and her seventh of the season with 5:11 left on the clock.

Kelsey Thompson recorded eight saves in the loss.
As a team, Fresno State attempted 41 shots to Wofford's 13 and collected 22 groundballs to Wofford's 12. Both teams won 14 draw controls. The Terriers had 7 successful clears out of 10 attempts, while the Bulldogs finished 15-17. Fresno State finished 7-9 on free position shots while the Terriers were 1-2.
Today's game was Wofford's first of three consecutive at home. Next, the Terriers welcome Stetson to town on Thursday, March 29 at 5 p.m. Then, the Terriers host Jacksonville on March 31
st at 1 p.m.
