CLEMSON, S.C. – The Wofford College baseball team was defeated 6-3 on Tuesday night at doug Kingsmore Stadium. The Terriers scored twice in the first inning and had a 3-1 lead after five innings. The Tigers had a solo home run in the sixth. They scored four runs in the seventh inning to take the lead and the win.
                    
Wofford is now 6-6 on the season. Clemson, ranked as high as #6 in the nation, is 11-1. The Terriers were led by 
Andrew Orzel with two hits and a pair of RBIs, while 
Brett Rodriguez added two hits. The Tigers had six hits - two by Logan Davidson - and took advantage of ten walks in the game.  
 
With two outs in the top of the first, 
Mack Nathanson walked and 
Cody Miller singled. 
Andrew Orzel doubled to drive in both runners, but as thrown out trying to reach third on the play. Clemson led off the bottom of the first with a single and with one out added a runner on a hit by pitch. The Terriers turned a double play to end the first inning with a 2-0 lead.
 
Max McDougald led off the second with a single, but it was followed by a double play and a walk to 
Chris Rubottom. A ground out ended the top of the second. Clemson opened the bottom of the second with a single, but the runner was out trying to steal second. A walk was followed by a fielder's choice and a strikeout to end the frame. 
Brett Rodriguez singled through the left side to start the third inning. 
Mack Nathanson singled with one out before a pair of strikeout ended the top half. Clemson was retired in order to end the third inning.
 
After Wofford was retired in order to open the fourth inning, the Tigers had back-to-back walks to start the bottom of the fourth. A sacrifice bunt advanced the runners and a ground out drove in a run for a 2-1 score. A line out on a diving catch by 
Chris Rubottom ended the fourth inning. 
Alex Malsch led off the fifth with a double and moved to third on the throw as two Tigers collided on the play in the outfield. 
McClain Bradley walked with one out to give Wofford runners on the corners. A sacrifice fly by 
Mack Nathanson gave the Terriers a 3-1 lead.
 
The Tigers began their half of the fifth with a runner reaching on an error. Clemson had the bases loaded with two outs after a couple walks, but a fielder's choice ended the scoring chance. 
Andrew Orzel doubled with one out in the top of the sixth inning and 
Max McDougald followed with a walk. Wofford left both runners in scoring position to end the top half. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Justin Hawkins hit a solo home run to make the score 3-2.
 
Wofford had a single from 
Brett Rodriguez with one out in the seventh inning, but was stranded at second. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Logan Davidson hit a solo home run to tie the game at 3-3. Three straight walks loaded the bases and a fielding error allowed a run to score. Two bases loaded walks made it a 6-3 game. Wofford went in order in the top of the eighth inning. The Tigers added two hits in the bottom of the eighth, but both were left in scoring position. The Terriers went in order in the top of the ninth to end the game.
 
Jake Zoller made his first career start for the Terriers and went 3.1 innings with one run allowed on two hits, along with two strikeouts. 
Tyler McGuigan gave up two runs on two hits in 3.0 innings and had one strikeout. 
Jake Hershman (0-1) allowed three runs on three walks. 
Ty Reginelli worked two-thirds of an inning with one strikeout and two walks. 
David Ehmen allowed two hits in an inning.
 
Clemson pitcher Travis Marr started the first 5.0 innings with three runs allowed on six hits, while striking out four. Owen Griffith went a third of an inning with one hit allowed. Carson Spiers (1-0) earned the win by going the final 3.2 innings and allowing only one hit with three strikeouts.
 
On Wednesday, Wofford and Boston College will play at noon in Greenville at Fluor Field. The Terriers return home Saturday, March 10 to begin a three-game series against Marist.
