GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Wofford College baseball team won both games of a doubleheader against Furman on Saturday at Latham Stadium. In the first game, Wofford scored three runs in the first inning and never trailed, adding six runs in the final two innings for the 13-5 margin. Furman took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two, but Wofford tied it in the fourth inning. The Terriers scored once in the sixth to take the lead and added two runs in the eighth for the 5-2 final score.

Wofford is now 25-12 on the season and 6-3 in the Southern Conference. Furman is 17-19 overall and 3-6 in league play. Wofford won the series over the Paladins for the second straight year and it was the first series win in Greenville since 2004. The Terriers were led in the first game by
Colin Davis with two hits and five RBIs as the team had 13 hits in the contest. Furman's Ben Anderson had four hits and three RBIs. Wofford had eight hits in the second game, with home runs by
Mack Nathanson and
Cody Miller. Ben Anderson had two of the six hits for the Paladins.

To start the first game, McClain Bradley doubled with one out and then
Mack Nathanson hit a ball into the trees in left field for a 2-0 lead. It was his seventh home run of the season. With two outs,
Brett Rodriguez hit his first home run of the season for a 3-0 lead as the ball cleared the fence in left center.
Cody Miller added a double, but he was left on base. The Paladins had a single and walk, however a double play and ground out ended the first inning.

With one out in the top of the second,
Alex Malsch had an infield single and moved to second on a passed ball.
McClain Bradley reached on a fielding error and Malsch scored on the play for a 4-0 advantage.
Mack Nathanson took first base on a catcher's interference. On a double steal, a throwing error allowed Bradley to score as Wofford had a 5-0 lead in the middle of the second.

The Paladins had a single to lead off the bottom of the second and a single with two outs had runners on the corners. A walk loaded the bases and a double to left field drove in three runs for a 5-3 game.
Brett Rodriguez singled to open the third inning and
Max McDougald added a single with one out. A double steal put runners in scoring position and a sacrifice fly by
Lawson Hill plated a run for a 6-3 lead. Furman left one runner on base in the bottom of the third after a single and Wofford was retired in order in the top of the fourth inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Paladins had runners in scoring position with two outs after a single and a double before a strikeout ended the scoring chance. Wofford went in order in the top of the fifth. With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Jake Crawford hit a solo home run to make it a 6-4 game.
Max McDougald led off the sixth inning with a single through the left side and
Lawson Hill was hit by a pitch. The runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt and an intentional walk to
Colin Davis loaded the bases. A sacrifice fly by
McClain Bradley gave Wofford a 7-4 lead, but two runners were stranded in the middle of the sixth.

Furman left one runner on base in the bottom of the sixth and Wofford stranded one in the top of the seventh. The Paladins led off with a hit by pitch and fielder's choice. With two outs, an infield single and a throwing error allowed a run to score and it was a 7-5 game.
Lawson Hill singled to start the eighth inning and
Alex Malsch was hit by a pitch.
Colin Davis crushed a ball to left center to clear the fence for his seventh home run of the season as the Terriers took a 10-5 lead.
McClain Bradley added a double, but was stranded at third base.

After Furman was retired in order to end the eighth inning,
Cody Miller led off the top of the ninth with a single.
Max McDougald was hit by a pitch and
Lawson Hill walked to load the bases. A ground out by
Alex Malsch pushed a run across and a double down the third base line by
Colin Davis drove in two to give the Terriers a 13-5 advantage. The Paladins were retired in order in the bottom of the ninth to end the game.

Austin Higginbotham (4-2) started for the Terriers and went 6.0 innings with four runs allowed on nine hits, along with six strikeouts.
Matt Ellmyer earned his third save of the season by going the final three innings with one run allowed, one hit allowed and two strikeouts.

Furman starting pitcher Grant Schuermann (2-6) threw two innings with six runs allowed on six hits. Jordan Beatson worked 5.0 innings with four runs allowed on four hits while striking out four. Jonathan Mouw gave up three runs on two hits in an inning on the mound. Austin Wood went an inning with one hit allowed.

In the second game, the Terriers left one runner on base in the top of the first after a walk. The Paladins opened their half of the first with a triple. A ground out scored the run for a 1-0 lead and with two outs a solo home run by Brandon Elmy made it a 2-0 game. Wofford was retired in order in the top of the second inning. Furman had two walks in the bottom of the second, but left only one on base after the Terriers turned a double play.

Colin Davis had a double with two outs in the top of the third inning, but was stranded. Furman had a walk and single to lead off the bottom of the third to put runners on the corners. A pop up and double play ended the scoring chance for the Paladins.
Mack Nathanson hit a solo home run to begin the fourth inning. His eighth home run of the season made it a 2-1 game. With one out,
Brett Rodriguez reach on an error and
Cody Miller singled. A fielder's choice put runners on the corners and a single by
Lawson Hill drove in Rodriguez to tie the game at 2-2. Two Terriers were left on base in the middle of the fourth.

Andrew Orzel was hit by a pitch, however a strikeout ended the top half with two runners stranded. Furman had a single with one out in the bottom of the fifth, but the runner was caught stealing second and a strikeout ended the frame.

Cody Miller hit a solo home run to left center to lead off the sixth inning and give Wofford a 3-2 lead. It was his fifth home run of the season. The Paladins went in order to end the sixth inning and the Terriers went in order in the top of the seventh. Furman left one runner on base at the end of the seventh inning.

Brett Rodriguez walked to start the eighth inning. A fielder's choice by
Cody Miller on a bunt put runners on the corners with one out. A sacrifice bunt by
Max McDougald scored Orzel from third for a 4-2 lead.
Lawson Hill reached on a fielding error and Miller scored for a 5-2 margin. Furman left one runner on base in the bottom of the eighth. Â In the top of the ninth,
Colin Davis was out at third trying to extend a double. Furman had a ground out and a strikeout before an infield single. A strikeout looking ended the game.

Grant Byers started for the Terriers and went 4.1 innings with two runs allowed on five hits.
Jake Hershman (2-3) earned the win by going the final 4.2 innings with one hit allowed and a career-high six strikeouts.

Furman starting pitcher Matt Lazzaro threw 4.0 innings with two runs allowed on four hits while striking out three batters. Heath Hawkins (0-2) went 3.0 innings and gave up three runs on three hits with four strikeouts. Tyler Kimbrell gave up one hit in the last 2.0 innings.

Wofford will complete the nine-game road trip on Wednesday night with a visit to UNC Asheville. The Terriers return home on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. to begin a weekend series against The Citadel.
