Lacrosse Falls at Kennesaw State

KENNESAW, Ga. – The Wofford women's lacrosse team suffered a 21-6 loss at Kennesaw State on Friday afternoon. Wofford falls to 0-11 while Kennesaw State improves to 4-7.
 
Delaney Irwin scored a hat trick, while JoJo Franklin, Emily Elstun and Paige Sedlar each added one.
 
The Owls got the scoring started two minutes into the game. Up 1-0, Kennesaw State scored seven more goals over the next eight minutes to push the lead to 8-0. Franklin, a junior midfielder, netted Wofford's first goal of the game with 14:44 to go in the first half. The Owls responded with two, but then the Terriers scored the next two. Freshman Paige Sedlar scored unassisted with 11:25 left in the half to cut the lead to 10-2. The score remained the same for the next six minutes of play before Delaney Irwin made it 10-3 by converting on a free position shot. The Owls added three more goals in the final five minutes of the half and held a 13-3 lead at the half.
 
Kennesaw State scored the first three goals of the second half but Wofford scored three of the next four.  Freshman Emily Elstun netted a goal for the Terriers with 20:18 on the clock and three minutes later the Owls answered.  Delaney Irwin, a freshman midfielder, then scored two goals in just over a minute for Wofford. The first came on a free position shot and the second came off a pass from Franklin. Leading 17-6, Kennesaw State scored four in a row in the final 10 minutes of play to run away with the win.
 
Kennesaw State took 46 shots to Wofford's 20 and won 17 draw controls to the Terriers' 10. The Owls finished 12-13 on clear attempts, while Wofford was just 6-14.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Kelsey Thompson earned six saves in the loss, just one shy of the seven Kennesaw State recorded.
 
Wofford remains in Georgia for the next contest. The Terriers play at Mercer on Sunday, April 8 at 1 p.m. Wofford returns home on April 13 against Detroit Mercy.
