Women’s Soccer Coach Amy Kiah Resigns

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College women's soccer head coach Amy Kiah announced her resignation on Tuesday after 21 seasons leading the Terriers.

Kiah ends her tenure at Wofford with a career record of 124-191-43. A total of 15 student-athletes earned All-Southern Conference honors, while over 150 have earned Southern Conference Fall All-Academic Team recognition. She was the longest-tenured head coach at Wofford at the time of her resignation.

"This was the hardest decision to make in my 20+ years of coaching at Wofford," said Kiah. "I have been presented with an opportunity to teach elementary school, which will allow me to have more time to spend with my family. I wish nothing but the best for this program that has been such a huge part of my life."

Kiah coached the Terriers to a 7-11-1 record in 2017 behind all-conference performances from Hayley Younginer and Katie Beuerlein. Younginer led the country in total goals (21), goals per game (1.11) and ranked second in total points (46) en route to being named first team All-Conference. Beuerlein finished seventh in the conference in goals (7) and eight in assists (5) while being named Second Team All-Conference and CoSIDA Academic All-American.

In the 2015 season, the team finished with a record of 6-8-4 while reaching their third straight Southern Conference tournament quarterfinals. Hayley Younginer led the team in goals and was named to the SoCon All-Freshman team.

During the 2014 season, Kiah led the team to a 7-11-0 record while reaching the Southern Conference tournament quarterfinals. Hannah Washko and Rachel Fenner were named to the All-Southern Conference Freshman team. Additionally, the team broke the single-game record for goals (10) and points (28) in a 10-0 shutout of Chattanooga.

Under the direction of Kiah in 2013, the Terriers finished 8-5-6 overall and made their first appearance in the Southern Conference tournament since 2010. After defeating UNCG on penalty kicks in the first round, Wofford advanced to its first Southern Conference Championship semifinals appearance since 2002. The Terriers saw four players selected to All-Conference teams, including Maggie Bosley on the first team. The team's 0.55 goals against average against Southern Conference opponents was ranked first in the conference. Kiah earned her 100th career victory as a coach in a 5-1 win over Chattanooga (10/6/13).

The 2011 campaign saw the Terriers post s 8-7-2 record, the squad's best season since 2004. The 2010 team recorded seven wins and captured a berth in the Southern Conference tournament. The team went 7-8-4 overall, posting the most wins since the 2007 season when the Terriers finished 7-11-2.

With the Terriers' 4-0 win over Canisius Sept. 5, 2003, she became the program's all-time winningest head coach and with a career tally of 88, she eclipsed the mark of 35 by Josef Lorenz (1995-98). Kiah arrived in Spartanburg in 1997 as an assistant coach for Lorenz. She took over the program in the fall of 1999 and led the Terriers to a school-record 13 victories in her first year. Kiah became the first Wofford women's soccer coach to eclipse the 50-win plateau when the Terriers earned a 1-0 home victory against Western Carolina on Oct. 2, 2005.

A native of Atlanta, Ga., she attended North Carolina and played for legendary head coach Anson Dorrance. At Chapel Hill, she was a member of the team that captured three consecutive national titles from 1992-94. After redshirting the 1994 campaign, Kiah transferred to the College of Charleston and garnered 1995 first-team All-Trans America Athletic Conference honors.

A 1999 graduate of Converse College, she is married to Wofford director of athletic facilities Andy Kiah. The couple has two daughters, Kayleigh and Mikenna.

Assistant coach Eric Lewis will oversee the women's soccer program in an interim role until a decision is made on a new head coach.
