Miles Brown is one of the 25 nominees on the 2018 Buck Buchanan Award Watch List which was announced on Thursday. The annual award is presented by STATS to the most outstanding defensive played in the FCS following the regular season.

Brown, a senior from Cheverly, Maryland, started all 13 games last season and had 44 total tackles while leading the team in sacks and tackles for loss. He was first team All-Southern Conference last season and a third team STATS All-American. Brown has also received preseason All-America honors from HEROES and Athlon. He is the first Terrier to earn a spot on the watch list since Alvin Scioneaux in 2013.

At least one player from all 13 conferences are nominees for the national defensive player of the year award. Ten were nominees or finalists last season, when former Jacksonville State defensive end Darius Jackson claimed the Buchanan.

The watch list will have updates during the season. A national panel of over 150 sports information and media relations directors, broadcasters, writers and other dignitaries will vote on 25 finalists following the regular season.

The breakdown of the watch list by position: 11 defensive linemen, eight linebackers and six defensive backs. The Missouri Valley Football Conference had the most preseason nominees with five followed by CAA Football with four. Brown is one of three players from the Southern Conference on the list, along with Samford's Ahmad Gooden and Western Carolina's Marvin Tillman.
Also this season, STATS will present the Walter Payton Award (FCS offensive player of the year), Jerry Rice Award (FCS freshman player of the year), Eddie Robinson Award (FCS coach of the year) and Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
