Wofford Announces 2019 Football Schedule

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College has announced the 2019 football schedule, which features home games against Southern Conference foes Chattanooga, Furman, Samford and Western Carolina, along with a road game at 2018 FBS National Champion Clemson.
 
Wofford is looking to continue the success of the 2018 season, in which the Terriers won the Southern Conference Championship for the second straight season. Overall the team was 9-4 overall and 6-2 in league play. The Terriers advanced to the NCAA FCS Playoffs for the third straight season.  
 
The Terriers will open the season at South Carolina State on August 31, beginning a home-and-home series. The teams last met in 2006 and Wofford holds a 6-2 lead in the series against the Bulldogs. After the first of two bye weeks, Southern Conference play begins at Gibbs Stadium against Samford on September 14. The Bulldogs have won four straight contests against the Terriers.
 
On September 21, Wofford will host Gardner-Webb. The Terriers have won three straight against the Runnin' Bulldogs. A road trip to VMI on September 28 is followed by a trip to East Tennessee State on October 5. Wofford has won seven straight against the Keydets and have eight straight wins over the Bucs. 
 
Following the second open date, Wofford will host Western Carolina at Gibbs Stadium on October 19 as part of Homecoming weekend. The Terriers hold a 27-14 lead in the series against the Catamounts, including wins in the last three seasons. On October 26, Chattanooga visits Spartanburg during Family weekend. Wofford has won three straight in the series against the Mocs.
 
Wofford will travel to Clemson on November 2. The Tigers won the 2018 FBS National Championship and were 15-0 on the season. The teams first met in 1896 and Clemson holds a 12-3 lead in the series. A road trip to Mercer follows on November 9. Wofford has won all five games since the Bears joined the Southern Conference. The Terriers host Furman on November 16, which will mark the 130th anniversary of the first meeting on December 14, 1889. Wofford has won four of the last five meetings, with the Paladins winning last season in Greenville. The regular season concludes on November 23 at The Citadel. Wofford has won the last three games in the series and 19 of the last 21 meetings overall.
 
All dates are subject to change. Kick off times and the Southern Conference television schedule will be announced at a later date. Spring practice for the Terriers will begin on Thursday, February 7.
