SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Wofford women's soccer team was defeated 1-0 by Western Carolina on Friday night at Snyder Field. The Catamounts scored the game's lone goal with under two minutes to play in regulation.
Wofford is now 4-9 on the season, falling to 1-4 in Southern Conference play. Western Carolina is 8-5 overall and 2-2 in the league. Overall the Catamounts had a 9-1 advantage in shots on the game.
Savannah Vathy had the shot for the Terriers while
Maria Mon made three saves in goal.
The Catamounts had a pair of corner kicks at the 18:00 mark of the first half and had the first shot of the game a minute later. Ximena Solis had a shot go off the left post with three minutes remaining in the first half. Wofford had a corner kick with ninety seconds on the clock but were not able to get a shot on goal.
In the second half, the Catamounts had a shot saved two minutes into play. Wofford had a shot by
Savannah Vathy at the 54 minute-mark that was saved. Mackenzie Wright got a shot into the Wofford net with 88:14 on the clock to break the tie. The Terriers had the ball in the Western Carolina zone for the remainder of the match but were unable to find the equalizer.
On Sunday, October 15, the Terriers will host East Tennessee State at 2:00 p.m. in the final home game of the regular season.
