WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wofford men's tennis team competed in the 2019 Wake Forest Fall Invite held this weekend. The team won two doubles flights, along with numerous singles matches.
"On the third day of the tournament we went 7-1," said head coach
Rod Ray. "This is a significant milestone that makes us proud. Bryce, Callum,Losa, Lucas, Javi, Julian, and Omar played hard and improved each day. I love these guys and their team is coming together."
In doubles,
Bryce Keim and
Javi Casasolas won the B2 flight with wins over Mercer, Stetson and Richmond.
Lucas Cerbelli and
Diego Losada won the C flight after victories over Davidson, Richmond, Clemson, and Tennessee Tech.
Julian Chousa and
Omar Williams won their opening match 6-3 against Davidson and added a win over Mercer.
During singles play,
Omar Williams picked up wins over Joel Popov of Coastal Carolina, Clement Hamel of Stetson and 6-4, 7-6 (5) over Pierre-Louis Dodens of Clemson.
Julian Chousa won 6-1, 6-1 over Zak Talic of Coastal Carolina and added a win over George Lovitt of Richmond.
Bryce Keim won 6-3, 6-4 over Mark Dillon of North Carolina and 6-2, 7-6 (5) over Noe Macquart of Campbell.
Javi Casasolas had a 6-3, 6-0 win over Fabian Penzkofer of Stetson and a three-set win over Mike Agee of Clemson.
In the singles E flight,
Diego Losada won 6-1, 7-6 (5) over Francesco Gemero Cori of Coastal Carolina and added a win over William Clark of Davidson. Lucas Cerebelli won 6-1, 6-4 over Jaxon Wiley of Clemson, along with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Matko Varga of Radford and 3-6, 6-0, 6-0 over Pieter Wernink of Richmond.
Callum Rendle had a 6-4, 6-1 win over Fernando Clemente of Campbell and a 6-1, 6-1 win over Matko Varga of Radford.
With the fall tournament season complete, the team will open match play on Sunday, January 12 against North Carolina.
