SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's basketball team earned their fourth straight SoCon victory on Saturday afternoon, holding on for an 84-75 win against the Furman Paladins on Senior Day at Richardson Indoor Stadium. Prior to play, senior forward
Marissa Bayer and student manager Aaliyah Jones were recognized for their efforts and commitment to the program over their four years at Wofford. The 84 points scored is the most Furman has allowed through SoCon play, as the Paladins ranked first in-conference in scoring defense, allowing only 55.5 points, coming into the contest. The win moves Wofford to 15-12 overall and 7-5 in conference, as Furman drops to 16-11 and 8-4.
Â
"We've put ourselves in really good position to finish some goals out for the rest of the year and to do that though, you had to win this one at home," said head coach
Jimmy Garrity. "They (Furman) cut it to within one. We didn't panic, we got it right back up to 10 and, down in the end, made enough free throws to hold on. Really proud of them."
Â
The Terriers finish their home slate with a 12-1 record, as they match the '91-'92 and '93-'94 teams for the most home wins in program history. The win is also the second straight against the Paladins in Richardson Indoor Stadium upon the building's opening last season.
Â
Sophomore
Da'Ja Green led the Terriers with a game-high and season-high 24 points on 6-of-7 shooting, seven assists, four rebounds, and two steals. Junior

Cairo Booker (five points, two rebounds, two assists) also provided solid efforts.
Â
"She's put in the work. She's improved her game every single year and she's an unbelievable teammate, everybody loves her," added Garrity of lone senior
Marissa Bayer. "With everybody playing together and playing for her, they weren't going to let her lose today. As a head coach, when you know you're team feels that way, you feel really proud."
Â
After a hot-shooting quarter would give the Terriers a 12-point lead (26-14) at the end of the first, Wofford began to take control holding double-digit leads throughout the rest of the first half. Up 38-25 with 5:29 left, a
Chloe Wanink jumper would spark a 7-0 run, including a
Niyah Lutz three and
Da'Ja Green jumper, that gave Wofford their largest lead of the half, 45-25, by 3:29. Wofford went on to maintain the 20-point lead up until the Paladins would score five of the last nine points to send the score at 47-32 heading into the break.

The Paladins came out the half resilient, as Furman's Le'Jzae Davidson came alive to pace Furman in scoring 12 of the first 16 points to bring the game within five, 50-45. A Furman three would cut the lead to one, 52-51, by the halfway mark, however, Wofford answered with scores from
Cairo Booker,
Da'Ja Green, and
Marissa Bayer to push a 58-51 lead with 3:38 left. After trading baskets, Bayer went on to score a crucial basket that pushed a 4-0 run to end the quarter back with a double-digit lead, 67-56.
Â
Jamari McDavid free throws and a Wanink finish held a 10-point spread (70-60) in the opening minutes of the fourth, though, Furman would score five straight to make the score 70-65. The Paladins, however, wouldn't come any closer for the duration of the contest, as a
Chloe Wanink bucket and
Da'Ja Green free throws brought the margin back out to 11 (76-65) with 2:19 left. Holding double-digit margins, the Terriers never looked back as the Paladins forced Wofford to convert from the line for the remainder of the contest, hitting 13-of-18 (72.2%) in the frame to eventually earn the 84-75 win at the buzzer.
