LEXINGTON, S.C. – The Wofford College baseball team was defeated 4-3 in eleven innings by Charleston Southern at Lexington County Baseball Stadium on Wednesday night. The Terriers plated runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings for a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the eighth, the Bucs scored three runs to tie the game. Neither team scored in the ninth or tenth innings. The Bucs had a pair of doubles in the bottom of the 11
th to win.

Wofford opens the season 4-3, while the Bucs are 3-6. The Terriers were led by
Lawson Hill with four hits and two RBIs, while
John Dempsey added three hits. The Bucs had three hits by Jason Miller and two RBIs by Josh Litchfield.

The Terriers were retired in order in the top of the first inning and the Bucs stranded two runners.
Lawson Hill had an infield single to leadoff the second inning, but he was caught stealing.
Hudson Byorick reached on an error but was stranded at the end of the inning.

In the bottom of the second, the Bucs had a pair of runners in scoring position after a double and a walk before a ground out ended the frame.
John Dempsey led off the top of the third with a double to right center.
Colin Davis walked with two outs, but an attempted double steal resulted in Dempsey being out at home. The Terriers turned a double play to end the bottom of the third.

With one out in the top of the fourth,
Lawson Hill singled and moved to second on a balk.
Alec Cargin reached first on an error and Hill scored on the play to give Wofford a 1-0 lead.
Rasesh Pandya struck out the side in the bottom of the fourth inning.
John Dempsey singled to lead off the top of the fifth inning, but was stranded at second. Â

The Bucs had a runner on third with two outs in the bottom of the fifth before a ground out to third base ended the scoring chance. In the top of the sixth,
Lawson Hill had a bunt single with one out and advanced on a wild pitch. He moved to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch to give Wofford a 2-0 lead. The Bucs had a pair of singles with one out in the bottom of the sixth, but both runners were stranded.

John Dempsey doubled to lead off the seventh inning and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by
Mike Brown. A single to center by
Colin Davis with two out scored Dempsey to give Wofford a 3-0 advantage. With two out in the bottom of the seventh, the Bucs had back-to-back singles before a fly out ended the inning. Wofford had two runners on base in the top of the eighth after
Hudson Byorick was hit by a pitch and
Reed Massey singled, but a strikeout ended the half.

A solo home run by Ryan Stoudemire in the bottom of the eighth made it a 3-1 game. A single and double had runners in scoring position with one out. A fielding error loaded the bases for the Bucs. After a strikeout, a single to left field drove in two runs and the game was tied at 3-3. A fly ball ended the eighth inning. Wofford was retired in order in the top of the ninth inning. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, the Bucs had a single before a strikeout sent the game to extra innings.

In the top of the tenth,
Brett Rodriguez was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning.
Lawson Hill had an infield single and with one out a walk by
Nolen Hester loaded the bases. A strikeout and fly out ended the top half with the runners stranded. The Bucs were retired in order in the bottom of the tenth. With two outs in the top of the 11
th,
Colin Davis and
Brett Rodriguez had back-to-back singles. A ground out ended the half for the Terriers. The Bucs had one out in the bottom of the 11
th when back-to-back doubles by Kyle Horton and Reid Hardwick ended the game with the Bucs winning 4-3.

David Yourke made his first career start and went 2.1 innings with two hits allowed, along with a strikeout.
Rasesh Pandya worked three innings and allowed one hit and tied a career high with three strikeouts.
Jake Hershman did not allow a run on three hits in 1.2 innings, while striking out one.
Anthony Garcia (0-1) threw 3.1 innings with four runs allowed on seven hits, along with four strikeouts.

Charleston Southern starter R.J. Petit threw two innings with two hits allowed and two strikeouts. Seth Owens went three innings with one unearned run allowed on two hits and two strikeouts. Hunter Iling gave up one run on one hit in an inning on the mound. Jordan Bridges allowed one run on two hits in an inning. Lucas Ford went an inning with one hit allowed and a strikeout. Jamison Mobbs added an inning with one hit allowed and two strikeouts. Ryan Stoudemire (1-1) went two innings with two hits allowed and three strikeouts.

Wofford returns home for a four-game weekend series against Harvard beginning on Friday night at 5:00 p.m. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m. and conclude on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
