SPARTANBURG, S.C. – On Wednesday night, the Wofford College baseball team was defeated 7-6 in ten innings by Presbyterian College at Russell C. King Field. The Blue Hose scored three runs in the first inning and led 5-3 heading to the bottom of the eighth inning. The Terriers scored one run each in the eighth and ninth innings to tie the game. Presbyterian plated two runs in the top of the tenth and Wofford was only able to score one run in the bottom of the tenth for the 7-6 final.

Wofford is 21-14 on the season and Presbyterian is 15-18 overall. It was the third extra inning game of the season for Wofford. The Terriers had twelve hits in the game, with
Brett Rodriguez,
Hudson Byorick,
John Dempsey and
Matty Brown with two each. Jonathan White led the Blue Hose with two hits and three RBIs. Â Â

In the first inning, the Blue Hose took an early lead with a RBI single and a two-run homer by Jonathan White to make it 3-0. Wofford had a single by
Lawson Hill with two outs. Presbyterian added a single in the top of the second inning and the Terriers were retired in order to end the second inning.

After Presbyterian was retired in order in the top of the third,
Andrew Orzel singled for Wofford with two outs.
Brett Rodriguez added a single and stole second, but both runners were stranded in scoring position. The lead-off batter for the Blue Hose was hit by a pitch. An error on a fielder's choice was followed by a sacrifice bunt to put the runners in scoring position. A ground out made it 4-0 and a runner was left on third to end the top of the fourth.

A solo home run by
Hudson Byorick, his second of the season, made it a 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning.
John Dempsey added a single and a bunt single by
Matty Brown gave Wofford runners on the corners.
Alec Cargin reached on a bunt single to score Dempsey for a 4-2 game. The Blue Hose went in order in the top of the fifth inning and Wofford left two on base to end the inning after reaching on walks.

The Blue Hose were retired in the top of the sixth and Wofford stranded one runner in the bottom half after a walk. Presbyterian went in order in the top of the seventh. With one out in the bottom of the seventh,
Brett Rodriguez tripled off the wall in left field. He scored on a sacrifice fly by
Lawson Hill to cut the advantage to 4-3.

In the top of the eighth, the Blue Hose led off with a single and advanced the runner on a sacrifice bunt. An RBI single gave Presbyterian a 5-3 lead.
John Dempsey doubled down the right field line to open the bottom of the eighth.
Reed Massey pinch ran and moved to third base on a ground out.
Matty Brown walked and on a double steal Massey scored to make it a 5-4 game. The Blue opened the ninth with a double and the runner moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. The runner tried to score on a wild pitch, but was out at home.

The Terriers opened the bottom of the ninth with a walk by
Andrew Orzel. A fly ball and strikeout were followed by a failed pick off to move Orzel to second base. With two outs, a hit by
Hudson Byorick fell between a group of Blue Hose fielders for a double and Orzel scored to tie the game at 5-5. Â

In the tenth inning, Presbyterian led off with a walk and the runner advanced on a sacrifice bunt. After an intentional walk, a single and a double scored two runs for a 7-5 lead. They left two one base to end the top of the tenth.
Colin Davis singled to begin the bottom of the tenth.
Matty Brown followed with a single and
Ethan Cornelius walked to load the bases. A wild pitch advanced the runners and Davis scored for a 7-6 game.
Mike Brown was intentionally walked to load the bases. With one out, a fly ball and throw home ended the game with a double play.

Wofford starter
Cameron Bloodworth went two innings with three runs allowed on four hits.
Reece Maniscalco threw an inning with two strikeouts.
Jake Dippold worked four innings with one unearned run allowed and three strikeouts.
Anthony Garcia went an inning with one run allowed on three hits and a strikeout.
Rasesh Pandya (2-2) threw 1.2 innings with two runs allowed on two hits.
Matt Ellmyer recorded one out.

Jackson Dean started for the Blue Hose and threw four innings with two runs allowed on seven hits, along with one strikeout. Colton Springs went an inning with two strikeouts and two walks. Matt Norton had one strikeout and did not allow a hit in an inning. Luke Matthews allowed one run on one hit in an inning. Grayson Stoneking threw an inning with one run allowed on two hits, plus two strikeouts. Johnny Cook (2-1) went an inning with two runs allowed on three hits. Austin Paradis earned his first save with a walk and strikeout in the tenth inning.

The Terriers will host VMI this weekend for a Southern Conference series, with the opener on Friday night at 6:00 p.m.
