JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Wofford College baseball team picked up a 10-4 win over East Tennessee State at Thomas Stadium on Friday. Despite weather delaying the start time, the Terriers jumped out to a 6-2 lead after two innings. Both teams scored once in the fourth inning and Wofford added two runs in the fifth and one in the seventh. The Bucs plated one run in the ninth inning for the final margin.

Wofford is 24-17 on the season and 7-4 in the SoCon. ETSU is 27-11 overall and 7-4 in league play. The Terriers had 15 hits in the game and were led by
Matty Brown with a 4-for-4 performance that included two doubles.
Hudson Byorick added two hits and three RBIs. The Bucs had 16 hits, including three each from Cullen Smith and Jackson Greer. Both teams left 11 runners on base in the contest. Â

Brett Rodriguez opened the game by being hit by a pitch and
Hudson Byorick walked. A sacrifice bunt by
Lawson Hill advanced the runners into scoring position. With two outs, a single by
Colin Davis scored both runners for a 2-0 lead. The Bucs got one run back in the bottom of the first inning when with two outs three straight singles led to a 2-1 score. In the top of the second, back-to-back doubles by
Matty Brown and
Mike Brown made it a 3-1 game.
Brett Rodriguez followed with a single and a
Hudson Byorick double drove in both runners. After a ground out, Byorick scored on a wild pitch for a 6-1 lead.

In the bottom of the second inning with one out, back-to-back singles for the Bucs were followed by a fielder's choice that scored a run to make it a 6-2 margin. Wofford loaded the bases in the top of the third inning with two singles and a walk before a fly ball ended the scoring chance. The Bucs led off the bottom of the third with a single but stranded the runner at second base. With one out in the top of the fourth,
Lawson Hill doubled and he scored on a triple by
John Dempsey to make it 7-2. ETSU had two outs in the bottom of the fourth when back-to-back singles were followed by an RBI double. A ground out ended the fourth inning with Wofford leading 7-3.

With one out in the top of the fifth,
Matty Brown singled and moved to second on a ground out. An RBI single by
Brett Rodriguez scored Brown for an 8-3 lead. Rodriguez stole second and was able to score on a double by
Hudson Byorick to push the score to 9-3. The Bucs were retired in order to end the fifth inning. In the sixth inning, Wofford left one on base after a walk and the Bucs left two on base after a pair of singles.

The Terriers led off the seventh inning with a single by
Matty Brown and
Mike Brown reaching on an error. With one out a walk by
Hudson Byorick loaded the bases. A single by
Lawson Hill scored
Matty Brown and gave Wofford a 10-3 lead. The Bucs stranded one runner in the bottom of the seventh after a double.
Matty Brown added a double with two outs in the top of the eighth inning by was left on base. ETSU had a single with one out in the bottom of the eighth before the Terriers turned a double play to end the frame.

The Bucs turned a double play in the top of the ninth and a fly ball ended the top half. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Cullen Smith hit a solo home run to make it a 10-4 game. The Bucs added a double and a single before a strikeout ended the game.

Austin Higginbotham (8-2) started for Wofford and went seven innings with three runs allowed on 12 hits, along with two strikeouts.
Rasesh Pandya threw the final two innings and gave up one run on hits hits while striking out three batters.

ETSU starter Landon Knack (8-1) threw four innings with seven runs allowed on nine hits. He struck out two batters and walked two in his first loss of the season. Zachary Kirby went four innings with three runs allowed on six hits and one strikeout. Riley Maypother threw the ninth inning and did not allow a hit.
