ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Wofford College baseball team picked up a 12-1 win over UNC Asheville on Tuesday night at Greenwood Field. The Terriers had a 3-0 lead after three innings and then added three runs in the fifth frame. Five runs in the sixth inning gave Wofford an 11-0 advantage and both teams scored once in the seventh for the 12-1 final margin.

The Terriers are 25-17 overall on the season and the Bulldogs are 13-26 this year. Wofford had 14 hits I the game, including three each from
Hudson Byorick,
Andrew Orzel and
Matt Pagano. Orzel drove in four runs to lead the team. The Bulldogs were led by Greg Gasparro with three hits.

In the top of the first inning the Terriers were retired in order. The Bulldogs led off with a single but were unable to advance the runner. With one out in the top of the second,
Andrew Orzel doubled to right center and
Matt Pagano followed with a single. A sacrifice bunt by
Alec Cargin scored Orzel for a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the second the Bulldogs left one on base after a single.

Mike Brown led off the third inning with a walk and he stole second, then moved to third on a wild pitch.
Brett Rodriguez walked and then stole second base, followed by a walk by
Hudson Byorick. A sacrifice fly by
Lawson Hill made it a 2-0 game.
John Dempsey drove in Rodriguez on a sacrifice bunt to take a 3-0 advantage. In the bottom of the third, the Bulldogs led off with back-to-back singles. A pair of strikeouts and a ground out ended the inning.

Wofford had a single by
Matt Pagano to begin the fourth inning. He stole second and third base before the top half ended on a fly ball. The Bulldogs left one runner on base in the bottom of the fourth after a lead-off single. With one out in the top of the fifth,
Hudson Byorick doubled. He was out at third on a fielder's choice by
Lawson Hill and then a double off the wall in right center by
John Dempsey scored Hill for a 4-0 lead.
Andrew Orzel crushed a ball over the fence in left center for his second home run of the season and gave Wofford a 6-0 advantage. The Bulldogs stranded one in the bottom of the fifth after a single.

Alec Cargin led off the sixth inning with a double off the wall in left field. With one out he scored on a fielder's choice by
Mike Brown. Back-to-back singles by
Brett Rodriguez and
Hudson Byorick led to a run for an 8-0 lead. Walks to
Lawson Hill and
John Dempsey loaded the bases with two outs. A double to right field by
Andrew Orzel cleared the bases and Wofford had an 11-0 lead. The Bulldogs started the bottom of the sixth with a single and hit by pitch. A pair of fielder's choices had runners on the corners with two out. A ground out on a great throw by
Brett Rodriguez ended the inning.

With one out in the top of the seventh,
Reed Massey singled up the middle.
Mike Brown followed with a single and
Brett Rodriguez was hit by a pitch to load the bases. An RBI single by
Hudson Byorick made it 12-0 before a double play sent the game to the seventh inning stretch. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, the bases were loaded for the Bulldogs when a walk plated a run. A strikeout ended the inning.

In the top of the eighth, Wofford left one runner on base after a single by
Matt Pagano. The Bulldogs were retired in order to end the eighth inning and the Terriers went in order in the top of the ninth. In the bottom of the ninth, the Bulldogs left two runners on base after a pair of walks.

Hayes Heinecke (8-0) started for the Terriers and went 1.2 innings without allowing a run on two hits, along with two strikeouts.
Jake Hershman threw 2.1 innings without allowing a run on three hit and four strikeouts.
Reece Maniscalco and
Jake Dippold each worked an inning with one hit allowed.
Ty Reginelli gave up one run in two-thirds of an inning.
Matt Ellmyer threw the final 2.1 innings without allowing a hit and striking out two.

UNCA starter Danny Wilson (0-5) threw two innings with three runs allowed on two hits and three walks. Austin Fahr went 2.2 innings with two runs allowed on three hits. Ethan Tressler gave up four runs on four hits in an inning. Joe Sondock allowed three runs on four hits and two strikeouts in 1.1 innings. Dominic Freeberger went the final two innings with one hit allowed and two strikeouts.

Wofford will host league-leader Samford for a three-game series beginning Friday, April 26 at 6:00 p.m. at Russell C. King Field.
