SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Wofford lacrosse team claimed its second consecutive victory and its first Southern Conference win of 2019 on Saturday, defeating Delaware State 19-6.
Eleven players scored for Wofford as
Hannah Mutch and
Hannah Wurzel each totaled four goals.
JoJo Franklin and
Sophie Smith both scored a goal on senior day, while
Monica Branch picked up four ground balls.
Kelsey Thompson had five saves in the win while
Delaney Irwin and
Emily Beckman each scored a pair of goals.
Emily Elstun and
Hannah Wurzel each scored an unassisted goal to start the game, as the Terriers jumped out to a 7-0 lead just 13 minutes into the contest.
Delaware State would get on the board, but Wofford responded with five more scores to take a commanding 12-1 lead. Delaware State's offense began to click, getting a pair of goals from Emmy McGill and going into the break down nine (13-4).
Franklin opened up the second half with her 16th goal of the season, taking a pass from
Ally Furnari and converting it to give the Terriers a 10-goal lead. From here, Wofford added another five goals, as Mutch closed out the game with two scores to give the Terriers the 19-6 win.
With the win, Wofford is now 4-12 on the season, doubling last year's win total and improving to 1-3 in the SoCon.
Wofford will close out the regular season on Saturday, hosting Furman at 12 p.m.
