Box Score SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team (3-4-0) was defeated by USC Upstate (2-2-2) on Wednesday night at County University Soccer Stadium, 2-1. The two teams were originally scheduled to meet on Friday, September 13, but the match was postponed to Wednesday due to inclement weather.

Looking to get on the board first, Wofford came out firing as sophomore
Katie Gilligan tallied two shots within the initial ten minutes of the match, followed by another shot on goal from junior
Lucy Johnson. Unfortunately, the Spartans would strike first on a goal by Abbie Ellis in the 24
th minute. The Terriers would continue to attack the opposing net throughout the first half, outshooting USC Upstate, 12-5, as seven different players recorded a shot for Wofford. Despite the pressure, the Terriers trailed at halftime by a score of 1-0.

Aiming to tie the match, Johnson and junior
Eva Dailey continued to attack on offense right out of the break, forcing the Spartans to focus on defending their home pitch. This consistent pressure would pay off for the Terriers as Gilligan scored her sixth goal of the season in the 54
th minute to even the score at 1. However, USC Upstate would counter with another goal from Ellis in the 58
th minute as the Spartans regained the lead, 2-1. As the match drew to a close, both teams would be able to register more shots on goal, but the score would hold as the Spartans were victorious, 2-1.

Overall, Gilligan paced the Terrier offense with 10 total shots. Johnson, who notched six total shots on the night, was followed by Dailey, who had four shots total.
Savannah Vathy and
Clare Davis also recorded two shots in the match. Additionally,
Paige Miller,
Caroline Thompson,
Erin Wolfe and
McKenzie Guest each tallied one shot for Wofford.

The Terriers will be back in action on Sunday, September 22 as they travel to Appalachian State for another Sunday afternoon contest, kicking off at 1:00 pm. Wofford's next home game is scheduled for October 4 at 7:00 pm against VMI.
