CLINTON, S.C. – The Wofford women's soccer team (3-1-0) notched their second consecutive victory as the Terriers defeated Presbyterian on the road, 1-0. Looking to get revenge after losing to the Blue Hose at home last season, Wofford's lone goal seemed to be all the offense they would need as head coach
Emily Grant officially started her first winning streak of the year.
After knocking off Winthrop last Saturday in Rock Hill, the Terriers aimed to keep their momentum going, striking first in the 27
th minute on a free kick goal from junior
Eva Dailey. Following the goal, the two teams would each register shots at the opposing net, but neither would be successful. Wofford headed into the locker room at halftime leading by a score of 1-0. Overall, the Terriers delivered a solid offensive attack in the first half as they outshot the Blue Hose 5-2.
Coming out of the break, Presbyterian would register three shots within the first ten minutes, but the Terrier defense held their ground and denied the Blue Nose attack to maintain their lead. On offense, Wofford struggled in the second half as they were outshot 10-1. However, the defense proved to be the story of the night as the Terriers kept Presbyterian off the board throughout the rest of the match to win by a final score of 1-0.
Although the offensive performance was not ideal for Wofford, four different players were able to register shots on the night, including three of them being on goal. Sophomores
Katie Gilligan and
Savannah Vathy paced the attack with 2 shots each while Dailey and
Caroline Thompson contributed a shot of their own as well. It was also a historic night for junior transfer
Kelly Hogan, who recorded seven saves en route to her first win in goal as a Terrier.
Wofford will resume play on Sunday, September 8 when they return home to Snyder Field to take on the visiting Radford Highlanders at 1:00 pm. Fans can watch this match live at game time on the Southern Conference Digital Network.
