Box Score 2 Chapel Hill, NC – The Wofford Men's tennis team completed their first two matches of the 2020 campaign, unfortunately falling to Clemson 4-1, and dropping their match against #4 North Carolina 7-0.
On Saturday, Wofford was unable to find a win in the singles department against Clemson, but fought hard in every single match. The Terriers scored two out of three wins in doubles competition.
Omar Williams and
Julian Chousa knocked off the Tiger pairing of Gabriel Diaz Freire and Pierre-Louis Dodens by a score of 6-3. The duo of
Lucas Cerbelli and
Diego Losada also were victorious in their battle against Teodor Giusca and Carlos Kelaidis, winning 6-1.
"Winning the doubles point on the road against a strong team is a good start," said coach
Rod Ray. "We're good, but can be better after a couple more matches. Julian fighting back to win the second set was huge."
The Terriers were downed by North Carolina on Sunday afternoon, but despite the loss, coach
Rod Ray was very proud of his team's effort throughout the match.
"This has been a fantastic weekend for our team. Starting the season with two excellent teams is fantastic. We prepared well and competed hard which is what everyone hopes to do," said Ray. "The important things are in place for us to have a really great season. This is a talented, determined, and passionate team from top to bottom."
