SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Wofford women's lacrosse team hosted VCU for its home opener on Friday afternoon, falling to the Rams 21-6.
The Terriers, who were shorthanded, totaled 18 shots, with 16 being on goal, winning eight draw controls, causing five turnovers and totaling 14 ground balls. Four different Wofford players found the back of the net, with
Olivia Abe scoring two goals and
Leah Hurley dishing out a pair of assists. VCU was led by Kerian McTavish who registered five goals, while freshman
Aislinn Washburn recorded 17 saves in her debut as a starter.
VCU game out of the gates firing, scoring the first 10 goals before Hurley worked her way in front of the net and buried the first Wofford goal of the game. The Terriers would go on a run, scoring four of the next five with Abe,
Emma Gentile,
Emma Krasinski and
Brenna Duley all finding the back of the net to cut the deficit to six (11-5).
The Rams responded by scoring the next eight goals, but Abe was not done, burying a shot to register her third goal of the season.
Wofford falls to 0-3, and will return to the field on February 29 (Saturday), welcoming Gardner-Webb for a matchup at 1 p.m.
