Wofford Women’s Soccer Drops Regular Season Finale

MACON, Ga. – The Wofford women's soccer team fell to the Mercer Bears, 3-0, at Betts Stadium Sunday afternoon. Though the sides played a scoreless first half, Mercer utilized a three-goal second half outburst to claim the victory in the final match of the regular season.

The first half was relatively quiet for Wofford as the Terriers could only put on four shots. Mia Bookhard and Caroline Thompson tallied a shot on goal each, but neither found the back of the net. Rachel Rasins and Ashley Grant contributed the other two shots for the Terriers. The Mercer offense had some life, firing off 10 total shots in the initial frame. Maria Mon held steady in goal for Wofford, picking up four saves to keep the Terriers and Bears scoreless at halftime.

Wofford improved on the attack in the second half, posting seven shots. Lexi Reichenbach had two shots on goal with Mia Bookhard and Rachel Rasins also contributing a shot on goal each. All four were saved, however. Meara Kelly tallied Wofford's other three second half shots, but none of them were on target. Unfortunately for the Terriers, the Bears also saw an improvement on offense in the final 45 minutes. Mercer posted 16 shots, three of which found the back of the net. The Bears struck first when Pace Stephenson scored in the 50th minute. Mercer claimed an insurance goal in the 70th minute off the foot of Aliah Kitchens. A costly foul in the box set up a penalty kick for Mercer in the 87th minute, which Ally Fordham put away to secure the 3-0 win for the Bears.

Wofford (5-12-1, 3-5-1) totaled 11 shots on the day, but Mercer (6-5-5, 3-2-4) accrued 24. The Bears also held a slight corner kick advantage, 5-4. Maria Mon (3-6-0) picked up seven saves for the Terriers. Jordyn Ebert (6-5-5) tallied five saves in goal for the Bears.

Wofford will be back in action in the Southern Conference Tournament. The No. 9 seeded Terriers will travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. on Tuesday, Oct. 26 to take on the Mocs in an opening round matchup set for 6 pm. Chattanooga won the regular season matchup, also on their home turf, 1-0 on Oct. 10.
