Emory Wyatt led the Terriers with a career-best 16 kills and sophomores
Emily Hodsdon and
Sarah Barham recorded double-doubles, as the Terriers narrowly came up short of pulling off a consecutive five-set comeback victory at UNCG (21-6, 10-4 SoCon) with a 3-2 loss (25-16, 21-25, 16-25, 25-23, 8-15) at Fleming Gym on Saturday evening.

Wofford drops to 8-6 in the Southern Conference and 14-12 overall, seeing its four-match streak come to a halt, though, the Terriers remain in third in the league entering the final week of regular-season action.

Sophomore middle blocker
Sarah Barham recorded her first double-double of the season, and second of her career, with 13 kills and a season-high 11 blocks, while
Emory Wyatt finished with a career-best and team-high 16 kills to pair with four blocks.

Barham's performance marks her 12
th double-digit kill outing of the season, while she finished the match hitting a team-best .321. Additionally, Barham's block output of at least five for a match marks her 12
th of the season after tonight, as the Summerville, N.C., native is second among the SoCon in total blocks (111).

Emily Hodsdon corralled her team-leading eighth double-double of the season (15
th career) with a match-high 44 assists and career-best 18 digs, along with two kills and an ace. Freshman
Sarah MacLean added her third consecutive match in double digits with 10 kills and two blocks to cap all Terriers in double figures, followed by classmate
Mary Emily Morgan with seven kills and besting her previous career-high of 15 digs - set Friday (Nov. 5) against the Catamounts - with a new personal-best 16 digs, to pair with three blocks.

Wofford tallied 14 blocks in the match, marking its second-best block total for the season, to the Spartans' 10.5, while even holding a dig advantage for the match, 83-78. The Terriers rank second in the league as a team in blocks with a 2.09 average per set.Â

Conversely, UNCG was strong on serve in pivotal moments with 13 aces, tying a season-high for aces allowed by an opponent, for the match.

Bella Zeman contributed six kills, two blocks and six digs, followed by a balanced effort from junior
Kennedy Smith with two kills, aces and blocks apiece and 13 digs.
Kaitlyn Brown tallied 14 digs and two assists at libero, while
Abbey Richman added eight digs, two aces and an assist.

Wofford capitalized on a plethora of UNCG errors throughout the opening frame to cruise to a 25-16 advantage and start the crucial league matchup on the right footing, though, the Spartans regrouped to hold steady with 25-21 and 25-16 victories to possess a 2-1 edge through three sets.

The fourth set featured 23 tied margins leading up to the final rallies of the frame, as both squads played all the way up to a 22-22 deadlock, including 11 lead changes. Coming out of a Wofford timeout, kills from
Mary Emily Morgan and
Emily Hodsdon put the Terriers ahead at set point, 24-23. The Spartans would swing a costly attack error on the ensuing serve to keep the Terriers alive with a 25-23 outcome and summon a consecutive comeback victory opportunity for Wofford.

Both teams traded points to open the fifth, seeing kills from
Emory Wyatt and
Bella Zeman keep Wofford leveled, though, the Spartans would use a 3-0 run to claim an early 6-4 lead to force a Terriers timeout. A pair of kills from
Sarah MacLean paced Wofford, however, UNCG began to ride the momentum to hold a 12-7 edge at Wofford's final timeout. Out of the break, an immediate UNCG ace fueled the momentum even more, as a final Zeman kill would come for Wofford before the Spartans would earn the victory at the hands of an Elayne Grisbee kill and Terriers attack error to hold on for the 15-8 victory.

Wofford finished the match hitting .187 to UNCG's .162 percentage, as the Spartans finished with a 57-56 kill differential for the contest.

The Spartans had three finish in double figures, led by Elayne Grisbee with 16 kills, followed by Kayla White (12) and Brittany Wood (11).
