SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford's women's basketball team put up a tough performance behind
Jackie Carman's season-high 24 points, but were unable to come away with the win. Despite outscoring Chattanooga 30-14 in the second and third quarters, the Mocs came back with a 21-7 fourth quarter to steal the 60-52 victory.
The Terriers and Mocs sit in a tie for third place in the SoCon, each holding a 5-3 record. Wofford falls to 9-6 overall, while Chattanooga moves to 10-7.

MaryMartha Turner and
Lawren Cook scored a basket each to put some life in the Terriers. Chattanooga foiled that with a 7-0 run, but Wofford wasn't done yet.
Jamari McDavid and
Lilly Hatton combined for three points, and Carman scored five in the last 40 seconds to cut the deficit to 10 at the end of the 1
st, 25-15.
Niyah Lutz made a pair of shots followed by McDavid's layup that cut the Mocs lead to four. Carman then swished a trey after a Lutz offensive rebound to make it a 28-26 game midway through the 2
nd quarter. Chattanooga extended the lead with six straight free-throws before Cook made a pair herself as the Terriers trailed 34-28 going into the break.
The three point ball fell early for Wofford in the 3
rd quarter with Carman hitting two in a row and Lutz adding a triple of her own to give the Terriers the lead. Hatton scored a layup right before Chattanooga took a timeout, and after the timeout Carman made one of her own, part of a 13-0 run to give the team a five point edge.
Helen Matthews nailed a three at the end of the quarter for a 45-39 advantage going into the 4
th.
The Mocs came out hot as they did to start the game, going on an 11-0 run before Wofford called a timeout.
Alea Harris made two free-throws to score the first points for Wofford in the final frame. Carman made a contested jumper and Hatton swished a three with a minute left, the score now 54-52. However, Chattanooga scored quickly in transition and ended the game at the charity stripe for a final score of 60-52.
Jackie Carman scored a season-high 24 points, knocking down five triples and making nine from the field.
Niyah Lutz was one rebound shy of matching her career best, grabbing a game-high 11. The squad shot 40% from beyond the arc (8-20) and 75% from the free-throw line (6-8).
"We got down early, but I was really proud of how we fought back in the second quarter. Our third quarter may have been the best quarter of basketball for us all year, but unfortunately we weren't able to carry that momentum to finish the game", stated coach Garrity. "Jackie had a great game, but you can't have one player play the whole game for you, it has to be a team effort. There's a lot we can learn from a game like this and we will make adjustments and come out ready to play on Saturday."
Wofford rounds out their series with the Mocs on Saturday with a 2:00 tip inside Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.
