SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's lacrosse team opened Southern Conference play on Friday afternoon at Gibbs Stadium, seeing four different Terriers find the back of the net on the day, though, league favorite Coastal Carolina (4-0, 1-0 SoCon) handed Wofford its first SoCon loss, 18-5.

Elisabeth Ralph led the Terriers with two goals and a team-high four draw controls, while sophomore attacker
Brenna Duley matched a career-high of two points on the day with a goal and an assist.

Leah Hurley added her third goal of the year in the match, in addition to matching a career-high for ground balls with a match-high four, while junior attacker
Shannon Wulff net her fifth goal of the season to pair with an assist to round out Wofford's scoring.

Hannah Wurzel added two draw controls and one caused turnover for the Terriers.

The Chanticleers got on the board first within the opening minutes of the contest, as
Leah Hurley provided the equalizer for the Terriers in the 25
th minute unassisted to set the tone early on at 1-1. After a three-minute scoring drought, Coastal Carolina's Samantha Courtemanche net back-to-back goals to ignite a furious Chanticleer scoring run, busting a 8-1 advantage by the 8:59 mark of the first half.

Wofford broke its silence shortly after, seeing
Shannon Wulff dish a helper to
Elisabeth Ralph for the Terriers' second goal with 6:13 remaining (8-2). The Chanticleers then poured in three more to close the half, summoning an 11-2 margin at the intermission.

Coastal Carolina held a significant advantage in possession, edging Wofford 9-5 in draw controls in the first half, though, the Terriers remained scrappy in matching the Chanticleers in ground balls for the frame with 12 each.

Within the first 45 seconds, the Chanticleers found their 12
th goals to commence a running clock for the match's remainder, adding three more up until
Brenna Duley fired her first goal since Feb. 14, 2020 (at East Carolina) to add a brief spark of momentum. Duley would carry the momentum, as the Forest Hill, Maryland native then found Ralph for her second goal of the match with 14:14 left to make a 15-4 margin.
Shannon Wulff would eventually find the net to add Wofford's fifth and final goal with 5:43 remaining, as Coastal Carolina would cruise through the rest of the match to come away with the 18-5 victory at the final horn.
Next, Wofford (0-3, 0-1 SoCon) prepares for a challenge in traveling to Harrisonburg, Virginia for a clash at No. 12-ranked Jamison Madison on Friday, March 12.
