Women's Lacrosse Honors Four Seniors Upon Loss to Stetson

Terriers fall to Hatters at Gibbs Stadium, 18-7

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford women's lacrosse team returned back to action on its home field on Friday afternoon, ultimately squandering a two-game win streak in coming up on the short end of an 18-7 setback to the visiting Stetson Hatters (1-4, 0-2 ASUN) at Gibbs Stadium.

Prior to today's match, the Terriers recognized head coach Kim Orie Eldridge for her first career win at the helm of the program (17-13 at Presbyterian, Mar. 31), along with honoring the dedication and commitment of Wofford's four seniors – Maeve Moran, Tori Saylor, Kelsey Thompson and Hannah Wurzel.

Head Coach Kim Orie Eldridge receives a commemorative lacrosse stick in honor of her first career win at the helm of the program.

Wofford was led by the junior tandem of Ally Furnari and Elisabeth Ralph, as both notched three points on the day to lead the way. Furnari notched her second consecutive hat trick, with three goals, as Ralph contributed two goals and an assist to pace Wofford's scoring attack on the day.

Ralph's two goals elevated her pass the 30-goal mark on the season, marking the first Wofford women's lacrosse player to notch 30 goals in a season.

Shannon Wulff recorded two goals on three shots to round out the scoring, while adding three ground balls, as Olivia Abé added an assist on the day. Defender Emma Seif grabbed a team-best five ground balls on the day, as Emma Krasinski provided solid contributions with four draw controls and three ground balls.

Moira Carroll recorded three ground balls and a caused turnover, followed by Emma Gentile with three ground balls as well and a draw control. Leah Hurley and Hannah Wurzel each grabbed two ground balls, as Hurley added two caused turnovers and draw controls apiece. Kelsey Thompson recorded seven saves in-goal for the Terriers.

Wofford held a 22-19 advantage in ground balls for the contest, however, the Hatters were able to capitalize on slight advantages in both shots (29-26) and draw controls (13-11) for the match to pull away for the edge.

The Hatters opened the contest with the first two scores prior to Ally Furnari notching the first goal of the day for the Terriers unassisted (2-1). A costly yellow card would spark a man-up goal for Stetson shortly after, as Olivia Abé and Elisabeth Ralph would dish helpers on consecutive goals by Shannon Wulff in the midst of trading goals for a 4-3 margin in Stetson's favor by 14:32.

From there, the Hatters went on a furious 11-minute scoring run that saw the Hatters pour in eight unanswered goals to head into the intermission with a 12-3 advantage.

The Hatters continued their momentum to open the second frame, tacking on three more goals to summon a running clock before Elisabeth Ralph net goal No. 30 on the year to break the silence for Wofford, down 15-4 with 17:21 to play. Furnari added her second goal of the day shortly after (16-5), as Ralph and Furnari would ultimately conclude the match scoring back-to-back goals to shorten the margin to 18-7 by the final horn.

The loss drops the Terriers to 2-7 overall heading into its regular season and home finale against Furman next Wednesday, April 21, at 2 p.m at Gibbs Stadium.
