SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford head men's basketball coach
Jay McAuley announced the signing of incoming freshman Corey Tripp on Tuesday afternoon.
Â
"We are very excited to introduce Corey to the Wofford Terrier family," said McAuley. "He is an outstanding student-athlete with tremendous character and a relentless work ethic. Corey comes from a well-coached program with a winning tradition under Coach Hassinger. He has a college ready body and an ability to score it at a high level."
Â
Tripp, a 6-foot-2 guard from Medina, Ohio, joins the Wofford men's basketball program after averaging 23.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists his senior year as Medina High Schools' all-time leading scorer, over former Michigan standout and current G-League player Jon Teske (Lakeland Magic) and former 2000 Ohio Mr. Basketball honoree Tony Stockman. Tripp was named Medina County Player of the Year, while also being named the Northeast Inland District Co-Player of the Year in addition to receiving First Team All-Ohio honors.
Â
A three-year captain, Tripp has enjoyed an illustrious career, having led Medina to two of the school's eight district championships and one of the school's three Elite Eight appearances as a two-time team MVP and First Team Greater Cleveland conference selection under coach Chris Hassinger. In addition to his contributions on the court, Corey has served as a role model in the Medina community, engaging in community service through volunteer work at the Santa Project, Medina County Children's Center, Special Olympics and other acts of kindness, such as hosting free clinics for low income students and mentoring elementary school students.
Â
A native of Medina, Ohio, Corey is the son of Tyrone and Megan Tripp and has a sister, Kendra, who plays lacrosse at Walsh University in Ohio.
