BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Wofford volleyball team nearly poised themselves for a third consecutive five-set clash on Abessinio Court at FAU Arena, using a late push to pose a threat against host FAU on Saturday afternoon, though, the Owls' attack managed to outlast the Terriers in four sets, 24-26, 25-23, 17-25, 20-25, to conclude the final day of competition at the FAU Invitational in Boca Raton, Fla.
Meghan Yaffa was named to the FAU Invitational's All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the weekend.Â

Three Terriers finished in double digits, led by sophomore outside hitter
Addison Foote with a career-best 13 kills, two blocks and six digs, while
Meghan Yaffa and middle blocker
Sarah Barham each tallied 10 kills apiece. Yaffa added a team-high three aces and five digs, as Barham tallied three blocks in the match.

Sophomore
Emily Hodsdon recorded her first double-double of the season, and eighth of her career, with a match-high 42 assists and 10 digs, while also adding two blocks. Classmate
Millie Loehr registered five kills and three blocks, as freshman
Mary Emily Morgan added four kills and two blocks.

Abbey Richman tallied a team-high 12 digs, in addition to two aces and assists each, as juniors
Emory Wyatt and
Bella Zeman each finished with three kills.
Kennedy Smith added two aces and three digs, as
Chasidy Sharpe and
Robyn Krause contributed two digs each. Â

The Terriers began to get hot in the second frame, hitting .372 with kills on 20 of the 25 points, after dropping the first set, though, FAU managed to capitalize on timely runs over the duration of the match while hitting over .400 through the final two sets.

The Owls came swinging out the gates to start in jumping out to a 7-1 lead, as Wofford would then settle in with balanced efforts from
Meghan Yaffa,
Millie Loehr and
Addison Foote to bring the margin within two, 10-8. The Owls continued to land timely kills up until Yaffa would cap a 3-0 run with an ace on serve, followed by consecutive FAU errors giving Wofford its first lead, 21-20, at an Owls timeout. After three tied chances and two lead changes, a late
Mary Emily Morgan kill, followed by a Morgan and
Sarah Barham block, deadlocked the score at 24-24. However, the Owls would find consecutive kills on the ensuing rallies to claim the first, 26-24.

A plethora of Terriers contributed to early leads in the second set, busting out an 11-7 lead after a trio of kills from Foote, Loehr and Yaffa. Untimely errors down the stretch allowed the Owls to climb back within one, 13-12, before eventually taking their first lead of the set 17-16. The Terriers grinded point-for-point from there forward, reclaiming the lead upon late kills from
Sarah Barham and a
Kennedy Smith ace, 23-22. Barham then went on to reclaim the advantage for set point, as Foote dialed away the winner for the set victory, 25-23.

The Owls controlled the early part of the third set prior to a pair of aces from
Kennedy Smith and
Abbey Richman closing the gap within one, 10-9. FAU then responded with a 5-0 spurt (15-9), though,
Addison Foote would break the silence, followed by a Yaffa ace and blocks from Foote and
Millie Loehr, to trail 15-12. The Terriers saw points from Barham,
Bella Zeman and Yaffa, though, the Owls would then erupt for seven of the following nine points to claim the third set, 25-17.

Wofford came out poised for another comeback after Friday evening's result, forcing an FAU timeout after blocks from
Sarah Barham and
Addison Foote and a
Meghan Yaffa kill produced a 10-6 lead. Barham,
Emory Wyatt and Foote paced Wofford as the set progressed, holding a 17-13 edge, prior to the Owls summoning a momentum-shifting 10-3 run that would reclaim the lead and require the Terriers to talk things over at 23-20. Despite the break, the Owls managed to find set point on the ensuing possession, as FAU then landed an ace on the following serve to deny a Wofford comeback and claim the set and match, 25-20.

FAU finished the match hitting .363, as the Owls' Katelynn Robine led with a match-high 18 kills, followed by Klara Zarnovicka with 12 kills and six aces.

Wofford (1-2) returns to action on Friday, September 3, when it travels to Raleigh, North Carolina for doubleheaders against East Carolina at 1 p.m., followed by North Carolina State at 7 p.m. The Terriers are then scheduled to face North Carolina at noon on Saturday, September 4 in Chapel Hill, N.C.
