THE SAMFORD GAME
Wofford returns to the road this Saturday for a contest at Samford, the fourth road game in the first six weeks of the season ... The Terriers have begun the season 0-5 overall and 0-2 in the Southern Conference after losses at Chattanooga, against Elon, at Virginia Tech, at Kennesaw State and against Mercer ... The Terriers are looking to bounce back from a 2021 season in which they were 1-10 on the season and 0-8 in Southern Conference play ... Wofford has lost fifteen straight games for the first time in school history, which is the second-longest active streak currently in the FCS (Wagner, 24) ... Samford is 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in league play after wins over Kennesaw State, Tennessee Tech, Western Carolina and Furman, along with a loss at Georgia ... The Bulldogs were 4-7 overall last season and 3-5 in the Southern Conference to finish seventh ... They were picked to finish sixth in the SoCon this season by the league's coaches ... The Bulldogs are ranked 13th in the Stats Perform FCS Poll and 19th in the FCS Coaches Poll.

Here are the top notes of interest heading into the Samford game ...
    • Samford leads the series 14-5, which includes winning the last seven meetings.
    • The Bulldogs have had a bye before seven of the last nine meetings, but this season their bye is following the game.
    • The Terriers have begun the season 0-5 for the first time since 1987.
    • As the Terriers move towards a passing offense, Jimmy Weirick set a school record with 358 passing yards at Kennesaw State.
    • Wofford looks to end a streak of eight straight losses on the road.
    • In the national rankings, the Terriers are 82nd in total defense (416.8) and are 118th in total offense (234.4), while Samford is 54th in total offense (359.0) and 93rd in total defense (435.6).
    • The rushing offense had been ranked in the top ten in rushing offense for 22 straight seasons but were 13th in 2021 at 208.6 yards per game and are at 61.2 yards per game this season.

ABOUT WOFFORD
After playing a spring and fall season in 2021, the Terriers welcomed a return to normal with a spring practice, summer strength and conditioning sessions and camp in August to prepare for 2022. The biggest changes - besides time to develop players - has been a switch to a pro spread offense.
    The offensive line returns starter Anthony Garcia, while Al Hogan is back at center after missing the 2021 season. They are joined by Jason Swann, Jysaiah Cromer and Quincy Hughes. The skill positions has evolved into three receivers, one tight end and one running back in most formations. Receivers include Landon Parker, Alec Holt, Dylan Djete, Carlton Terry II, R.J. Khayo, Rickie Shaw II and Kyle Watkins. Tight ends are led by Jacob Ritchie and Jordan Davis, while Nathan Walker is back for his fifth season at running back. A three-way battle during camp at quarterback between Bryce Corriston, Cade Rice and Jimmy Weirick led to Weirick being named the starter.
    The defense remains a 3-4 base, with the defensive line led by returners Micheal Mason, Brandon Maina and Chuck Smith. The linebackers feature one returning starter in Camden Gray, while Jalen Marshall, Eli Purcell and John Boyles look to join him as starters. In the secondary, all four projected starters earned starts last season. Oka Emmanwori and Amir Annoor will work at cornerback, with Tahir Annoor and Miles Richardson at safety.
    The specialists will see Atkins Roberts returning as placekicker and Bridger Jones handling kickoff duties. Roberts and Landon Parker will handle punting, with Collin Springer back at long snapper for his fifth season. The return game features numerous players, including Kyle Parsons, Garrett Vernon and R.J. Khayo.

BREAKING PASSING RECORDS
At Kennesaw State on September 24, Jimmy Weirick threw for 358 yards, which broke the Wofford record that was set in 1969 by Harold Chandler against Catawba. Weirick's 25 completions also set a new school record, breaking the mark of 24 set in 1951 by Jack Beeler against Auburn. Landon Parker had six catches for 155 yards, with a long of 68 yards. His 155 yards are the tied for the second most in school history (Jerry Richardson, 241 in 1956 and 155 in 1958).

COACH JOSH CONKLIN SHOW
Wofford Sports Properties, the multimedia rights partner for Wofford College Athletics, has announced the return of the Coach Josh Conklin Show. The show is part of an expanded selection of coaches shows that began last season. The shows, sponsored by Budweiser of Spartanburg, are hosted by the voice of the Terriers, Jim Noble. The Josh Conklin Show begins in September and will debut every Monday during the football season. The first episodes of the Jimmy Garrity (women's basketball) and Jay McAuley (men's basketball) will debut in late December. Fans can listen to the "Wofford Terriers Coaches Show" podcast in a variety of ways, including on the iTunes, Amazon, Google and Spotify podcast platforms, along with www.woffordterriers.com/podcast.
