SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College football head coach
Josh Conklin has announced that
Darius Dobson and
Corey Woods have joined the coaching staff to complete the staff for the 2022 season. Dobson will work with the running backs, while Woods will coach the tight ends.
"I am excited about the new additions to our football staff," said head coach
Josh Conklin. "After losing our defensive coordinator and defensive line coach a month before the 2021 spring season, and then losing our offensive coordinator a month before the 2021 fall season, it was the right time to hit reset.
"We are in a new era of Wofford football," continued Conklin. "These coaches bring recruiting experience, football expertise, and they are committed to the mission of developing student-athletes. More importantly, they are great people, who I would entrust to mentor my sons. There is a lot of work in front us, but I am excited about the foundation we are building for future success."
Dobson has spent the past several seasons on the coaching staff at North Carolina Central. The Eagles opted out of the 2020-21 season, during which he served as the tight ends coach. He was the graduate assistant wide receivers coach for one season and then worked with the quarterbacks for a season as well.
He played quarterback for one season at Methodist University, winning a conference title, before transferring to North Carolina Central. He was part of two MEAC championship teams as a player before moving into a coaching role.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., he earned a bachelor's of science from North Carolina Central in 2018 and added a master's of science in athletic administration in 2020.
Woods has spent four seasons on the coaching staff at Limestone, most recently as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. Last season the Saints averaged 272.8 yards per game in total offense and lineman Cameron Thomason earned second-team All-SAC honors.
Prior to playing a reduced spring schedule in 2021 due to COVID-19, Woods mentored an offense that ranked fifth in the South Atlantic Conference with 356.6 yards per game in 2019. The Saints placed several players in the league's top-10 in multiple offensive categories while two offensive players were named All-SAC.
Woods spent the 2018 season coaching tight ends with the Atlanta Legends of the Alliance of American Football before the league suspended operations. He also completed Bill Walsh Minority Internships with both the Chicago Bears in 2018 and the Buffalo Bills in 2019. He worked with the offensive line while with the Bears and coached running backs with the Bills during OTA's and training camp with both franchises.
Woods spent one year as the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach with the Saints under former head coach Mike Furrey, helping to guide the team through the program's first year in the South Atlantic Conference.
Woods joined the Limestone staff after spending four years as the offensive line and tight ends coach at Kutztown University. During the 2016 campaign, the offensive line helped set a school record with 459 rushing yards in one game while averaging 226 rushing yards per game on the year.
The offensive line, which was anchored by 2016 Gene Upshaw Award winner Jordan Morgan, set a team record with 29 rushing TDs and extended an 18-game streak with a least 100 yards on the ground. Woods' line also set a team record by allowing a program-low 14 sacks during the 2016 season. Morgan, a two-time All-American, was taken by the Chicago Bears in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft after earning an invite to the Reese's Senior Bowl. He was the PSAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2016.
A four-year standout on the offensive line at the University of Akron, Woods made 48 consecutive starts and was named to the All-MAC Team as a junior. He signed with the New England Patriots in 2011, and then with the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League before joining the staff at Kutztown.
Woods graduated from Akron with a bachelor's degree in business organization and communication.
