Wofford College Holds 2022 Commencement

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford College conducted its 168th annual Commencement Exercises on the lawn in front of Main Building on Sunday morning. During the event, the college awarded 374 Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Arts degrees to 357 graduates, including 78 student-athletes.
 
The student-athletes were from 18 different teams and represented 20 states and seven countries. They studied 17 different majors with 64 of them earning Southern Conference academic honors in their career. They combined to win 465 games and five Southern Conference team titles, along with one individual title.
 
Alexis Tomlin of the women's basketball team was one of two Honors Graduates for earning a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout their college careers. She is graduating with a 4.0 GPA in mathematics and biology.
 
The weekend included Phi Beta Kappa induction ceremonies on Friday, May 20. Student-athletes in the group included: Megan Dunn (women's track and field), Ole Berg (men's soccer), Alea Harris (women's basketball), Alexis Tomlin (women's basketball) and Elena Pulanco (women's basketball).
 
Also on Friday, May 20, the college's annual Honors Convocation was held in the Jerome Johnson Richardson Theatre in the Rosalind Sallenger Richardson Center for the Arts. Academic departments recognized their outstanding students, and a variety of other leadership and citizenship awards were presented during the event. Student-athletes recognized included:
 
Art History: Elena Pulanco (women's basketball)
Biology, The W. Ray Leonard Award: Alexis Tomlin (women's basketball)
Economics, The Matthew A. Stephenson Award: Ole Berg (men's soccer)
English, The L. Harris Chewning Award: Alea Harris (women's basketball)
Mathematics, The John Q. Hill Award: Alexis Tomlin (women's basketball)
Sociology and Anthropology, The Gerry Ginocchio Award: Destiny Shippy (women's track and field)
Wofford Student Diversity & Inclusion Award: Alea Harris (women's basketball)
The Outstanding Citizen: Destiny Shippy (women's track and field)
 
Three retiring faculty members were recognized during the ceremony: Charlie Bass, Dr. and Mrs. Larry H. McCalla Professor of Chemistry (34 years of service); Andrew Green, assistant professor of finance and coordinator of the finance program (16 years); and David Sykes, Larry Hearn McCalla Professor of Computer Science (21 years). The college's board of trustees granted all three professor emeritus status.
