SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College football team reported to campus on Tuesday, August 2. After a day of move-in and meetings, they took the field for the first practice on Wednesday, August 3.

Overall, a total of 110 players reported to campus. The team is returning a total of 15 starters from the 2021 season. This includes five offensive starters, eight defensive starters and two returning specialists. An additional 15 players who started games in the fall also return. There are 35 newcomers to the team.   

The first practice began at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning and lasted two hours. The team worked primarily on implementing the systems on offense and defense, along with several team periods.

"The guys put a lot of time in during June and July, but to be back out here is exciting for the coaches and players," said head coach Josh Conklin. "This is a new football team and it is 2022, so it is a completely different feel out here in terms of who we are as a program. We want to be a pro spread style of team and what that means is utilizing our playmakers and getting them the ball. The guys are excited about that because they understand that they can be that playmaker if they are producing and making those plays. At quarterback, we need to have one guy that goes into the season as a starter. There is a lot of competition in the quarterback room right now and there are three or four guys that have a chance to be the guy. It comes down to the decision process and how well they are making decisions as we go through camp."
 
Practice will be held on the turf practice field until the end of Carolina Panther training camp and will last approximately two hours. All practices are open to the public; however, keep in mind that the time and location can change without notice.
 
The Terriers will open the 2022 season on Saturday, September 3 at Chattanooga. The home slate begins on Saturday, September 10 against Elon. Season tickets are still available by calling the Wofford Ticket Office at 864-597-4090 and single game tickets will go on sale on Wednesday, August 3.
